hey all

Looking at this http://www.datsport.com/Front_struts.html

I have a 1600 with 200rwhp sr20det and now i want to make it stop
From what ive seen the datsport stuff seems great quality so i thought this set-up would work for me. More to the point, this one http://www.datsport.com/R32_CO_S.html

I also want to get rid of my rear drums, what would my best option be?

Its mainly daily/street driven so dont need anything over the top but do want good quality/stopping brakes.

Is it worth the money?
are there any other bolt on kits?

please help :?

the R31 conversion is pretty popular and good for some pretty high power figures. i think baz has only just released the 290mm kit so havent heard much about it yet, but should be better than using a stanrad R31 disc.

as for the fronts, unless you have BIG plans for the engine, R31 brakes should be ample for the street. baz also sells these i believe.

but braking is one thing you shouldnt skimp on, so if you can afford to, get the R32 gear and 290mm conversion.

I would be surprised if big disks at the back actually did anything other than look good..... doesn't 75% (or more) of the braking happen at the front? If thats the case then you would need to have some VERY serious stopping power at the front before eg an R31 rear couldn't keep up.... I am by no means a brakes expert so I'll probably get comrehensively contradicted, but thats my gut feel. Then again I suppose you could subscribe to the proposition that you cant have too much braking power... but I would get the very best setup I could at the front before I thought abought anything above standard r31 at the rear.

You can do the R31 rear conversion yourself very easily. Hardest part of that is the cables/hydraulics ... and you can buy kits for those from Datsport. I have never heard anyone complain about the quality of Datsport gear. You can also get top quality brake upgrades from Datrats www.datrats.com.au and a few other places .... have you searched this site? There are heaps of brake discussions.

Cheers, Neil

converting from drum to disk is an upgrade worth while (or so i'm told) Drums have a tendency to lock on. Its not the easiest of conversions but if your reasonably handy you shouldnt need a kit (besides the handbrake cables). As for near 300mm rotors on the rear..... er no comment

They're the MadDat ones. Not quite the same. Front brakes are RX7 4 pot alloy calipers.

www.maddat.com.au

His website's being upgraded, so there's not much to see. Best bet is to give him a call. I know he gets pretty busy, and phone is probably the best way to catch him.

Plenty of people are running the R31 rears with SR20 and CA18's. THis is a great upgrade. I would not both going anything bigger on the rear. As you said it is a street car. I have 240K twins on the front and R31 rears and it stops on a 5 cent coin. The conversion itself is very easy. You can buy the needed calpier mouts from Datsport or Mad dat. The handbrake cables you can buy from datsport. Cheeers

For what brakes? You will need to work out your brake setup first then choose a master and booster. The booster I'd go for a 180B. They are small yet efficient enough for braking assistance.

ok

I found a guy in perth who does the rear R31 conversion, they look the part and are cheep!

and still leaning toward the datsport r32 260mm fronts
what booster/master should i look at?

then need some shocks/springs. Gotta try and match ride heights F/R....
should be fun

a 7/8" or 15/16" master cylinder will do. 15/16" comes from a 280zx.

i'm using a small 120Y booster. you could also use the bigger booster, which comes from a 240K or 180B maybe. might have clearances issues to resolve with the bigger one tho. it will say on the datsport site.

ZERO I'm in Perth who is making the rear R31 conversion for the future.

Guppy I think the 120Y & 180B boosters are the same size about 4" but 240k & 200B are bigger 5" or 6" which will foul on the clutch M/C.
I have 1600 with 120Y booster & 240k M/C 7/8" but when I put the 240K booster in it fouled on the clutch M/C & made sit on angle ppl told me that it dosen't make any differance to M/C but looks ugly.

If you want to save cash,

Hilux cailpers and 200b or 240k struts are bloody unreal

Rear discs do make a pretty big improvment

if its a street car there is no need for coil overs at the front..

i had the hills with a highly worked z18 and hilux cailpers with 20 bucks pads and they work unreal

i cook a set of pads each run but the stopping power is unreal
only down side is they are heavy around 7kg or so for the pair of cailpers
