FJ45 has big/small pistons

All Landcruisers that ran vented disc ran the same disc up to HZJ75 series and they are 20mm thick
80 series went thicker
The caliper everyone is using is the ones you already saw....... and you just mod them slightly to fit over the disc

Landcruisers are prone to dropping front wheel bearings which allows the disc to flop side to side and wear down the caliper body
This may be why alot of people can fit them straight on without modding them
I was under the impresion that there where hilux calipers with S12 on them, these suiting a 20mm disk and then there where hilux calipers with S13 stamped on them and these suited the 24 mm verada disks

Is this correct?

S13 are import Surf from memory

First Landcruiser to have all pistons same size is HZJ75
So if your calipers are all same size they are not HJ45

By 1.5mm bigger do you mean hat diameter or offset ?
If its offset you can mill off or shim the caliper to get it in the right spot
If its hat diameter then you won't know if its an issue till its bolted together and the caliper fouls on the hat......... but usually 1.5mm wouldn't be an issue

i found i had the S12 callipers, took them back yesterday and got some off a late(ish) model surf, these are the S13 stamped jobbies and they fit my 24mm verada disks :D

These are definatly the ones to get, unfortunatly i did not pull them off myself so i cant tell you the exact model might try and ring the wreaker and let you know

i'm running import hilux surf (kzn130) calipers (all pistons same size). all i needed to do was machine about 2-3mm off the mounting face so they were centred over the verada vented disc (dba425). on '76-'78 4-door & 2-door 240K struts (earlier 240K 4-door struts run a smaller disc which means the mounting ears are closer to the hub).

on the road to boyup brook there's a hilux on its roof in a paddock - go and take the calipers off it roflmao

Yo gupster it says in the DBA catalogue that the LN30 4 runner calipers suit 25mm discs.... So if the verada discs are 24mm thick why did you have to shave the face by 2-3 mm

no i had to shave 2-3mm off the part where it bolts to the strut - so that the caliper was centred over the disc.

i should clarify that it's only the early-model 240K 2-door that runs the smaller disc. both the 4-door and the later-model 2-door run the larger disc. (just wanted to clear that up for anyone who does a search or something)

And just to add to the discussion....

I've just fitted the S13W calipers over R32 GTST 4-stud rotors (280mm x 26mm) on 260Z hubs & struts. The rotors need machining down to ~ 273mm, and the centre hole opened up, and the caliper needed a ~4.5mm spacer and longer bolts. Still fits inside 14x7 "kidney bean" wheels.

The bad part? The RDA slotted rotors were $560 for the pair.

Edit : The calipers were off a Hilux V6 4-Runner, and appear to be the same calipers used on the current Hilux.

Edit2: Just found out that the machinist also had to drill four new mouting holes because the holes in the rotor were on a slightly different PCD than the ones in the Z hub. He didn't want to slot the holes, so just drilled new ones.

Guppy,
Just wondering if you could tell me how you calipers were machined/what sort of place you took them too?
everywhere i have tried here arent too keen on it, think its a rather large job to get it dead flat and both even. the only place that'll give it a shot thinks $80, but want me to strip the caliper down and split it. i would but... rang pbr and they said they dont do a minor or major service kit for them (4 runner/surf 93-96 vzn130)

ok i had a look today in the PBR catalogue and they dont sell any of these calipers new.. only the caliper kit..
dont happen to remeber part numbers do you MR1600? i'm sure i recall someone posting them on here before. stuffed if i can find them though

i tried the spacing on the rotor, no good as the end up the control arm then hits the back of the rotor when the car is on the ground, let alone under full compression of the suspension

my mate's a boiler-maker and he got a machinist at his work to do them. and yep i split the calipers first. i don't see how it could be a difficult job.

i got a rebuild kit for them from Neil (dattoman1000)

the calipers will need to sit at the front otherwise they'll foul on the steering arms (or something, can't remember exactly), so swap the struts left-to-right.
