Just a quick question

when you put the disc on the hub how are people actually mounting the disc on their before putting the tire on..

other wise it will just fall off as there is nothing holding it there in place

thanx

AFAIK the disc just slides over and like you said would be free to fall off when the wheel is not secured (save for the calliper that prevents it also coming off.

the caliper holds it loosely in place. it isn't secured in place until you put the wheel on and do up the wheel nuts

i don't see the problem. the only thing holding a standard rear drum on is the wheel too.

That design is fine. After all the only way for the disc to move would be if the wheel came off - and by that stage you probably have bigger issues at hand!

As Bob said, if it's good enough to hold the wheel on, then it's good enough to hold the brake disc on.

As far as welding the bracket onto the control arm, I'm pretty sure that the R31 bracket is removable, and can be bolted to the 1600 control arm after redrilling the holes.

There are a few threads around here relating to that conversion.

i got the caliper bracket off an R31, welded up the 4 holes, then re-drilled em to suit the angle i wanted the caliper to be mounted at.

there'll be pics of my setup in my thread in members' rides

unless you've got something like datsport's bracket, which is welded to the control arm - in which case ask baz

im just worried ill stuff it up and one side will end up being welded differently to the other or something..

Modding the skylines ones is easy, this is the way my bro-in-law told me to do it and worked a treat.

1. Weld up the holes.

2. Grind out the backing plate of the drum (make sure you get the 4 holes and middle hole)

3. Once you've got that backing piece off the drum, just line it up on the skyline bracket, mark the holes with a pencil, drill and adjust with a file if needed.

Job done.

If i chucked the backing plate away i suppose i would have to measure and drill..
