Can anyone recommend good brake pads for the twin-piston 240K calipers ?

The car is a track-only Datsun 1600 running an L18, so its not the fastest or most powerful thing around !!!

And while I'm asking, what about shoes for the rear - standard 1600 arrangement fitted with 240Z drums ??

For the fronts, either Bendix Ultimate or Ferodo DS2500 but they cost more. Pad is DB86.

Thanks guys.

I'll try to track down a set of Ultimates to try on my next track outing in August.

Was down at the local Repco getting thinners today, and thought I'd enquire.

$154 for the Ultimates.

discpads.com - $94 :?

Think I'll try them :D

Thanks

I use the DS2500's in the front of mine (Formulas in the back)

But by all means try the Ultimates first.

Thanks - I'll price them as well to get a comparison.

I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible, as its only something to fiddle with while I work (and spend money  ) on my other never-ending project.

This car has been residing in my shed for years, and I dragged it out and got it running for what was intended to be a one-off trip to this year's DatNats in Sydney for a bit of fun.

Turned out to be HEAPS of fun, and I'm just trying to get it to perform a bit better on the cheap so I can do a few more track days. Don't want to be the slowest on the track next time  . 1:32 around Wakefield PArk  The front pads in it at the moment (unknown brand) were far from confidence-inspiring, with no real bite either hot or cold.

I can't seem to find any reference to "performance" shoes for the rear, so I'm leaning towards Bendix Metal shoes.

Bendix Metal shoes should be fine, Dave.
The rears don't do a hell of a lot of work anyway...

Yep, I'm probably getting carried away again

But I'm a firm believer that $$ spent on brakes and suspension will reap far better improvements in lap times than the same $$ on the motor.

You won't get performance shoes in Oz
At least not cheaply
You could get some Carbon Kevlar ones from racebrakes but they will set you back over $500 a set
Find someone who does bonding and ask for some EF rated lining on the shoes.... and get them to drill and rivet the corners.
This is the best you'll get wihtou spending huge $

I used to get linings bonded onto shoes back when I was restoring vintage bikes - I'll see if the place that did it is still in business. And good point about drilling and riveting. My uncle races (well, raced) an historic bike until the newly bonded lining on his front brakes came adrift on his first hard stop on the first lap at the first corner of Eastern Creek. The bike snapped a fork leg when the front end locked up solid due to the loose lining getting jammed, and my uncle broke half a dozen of his ribs. His wife hasn't let him go racing since.....

I'll probably end up going with the Bendix Metal pads - $54 a set and as Lurch points out the rears won't do that much work.
