i'm talking about the holes that need to be drilled in the rotor for the hub to bolt up to, not the stud pattern

sorry to bring up an old thread but,
i got late model 240k struts, has the sh*t single piston calipers, and the sh*t 253mm rotors?

i also have a set of 200b struts sitting in my 200b surprisingly ...

which struts are more 'user friendly' for brake upgrades...

i rebuilt the 240k struts along with new springs and inserts, are these wasted or can they be used in the 200b strut??

i was hoping of doing the verada/hilux conversion... but apparently isnt compatable with my current strut :oops:

The best strut for a hilux conversion is the 240K with twin sumo's. The 253mm strut. Yes you can use the inserts and springs on the 200B struts.

Are you sure they arent twin piston calipers being confused with single piston? They look like single piston from the front IIRC

Dudes - the calipers are interchangeable.

What makes you think that your 35+ year old struts haven't had different calipers fitted to them at some stage?

Scenario 1 - If people believe the twin opposing piston calipers are better, then it's conceivable that someone has had a pair of each, swapped the good calipers onto the bigger rotor strut, and sold off the leftovers (which is what you have).

Possibility 2 - someone went to overhaul their twin piston calipers and found they they were shagged / seized. They went to a wreckers and grabbed the calipers off the first 240K they came across, and fitted these to their car.

I've had various combos of struts and calipers in my shed at different points of time, and have mixed and matched components to suit what I needed at the time.

Unless you've pulled the complete struts our of a granny spec original car with absolutely no evidence of ever having been modified (in which case you'd be shot for molesting a pristine example of a rare car) you can't say for sure that anything is as it left the factory.

I assumed that at some stage during the 240ks production they swapped from jap struts/brakes to aussie struts/brakes as per aus content requirements.

It was supposed to be the 4 doors from 75 - 78 that had the 253mm rotors (before that they had the even smaller 232mm rotors). The 1975 - 78 2 doors had the bigger rotors with single piston sliding calipers (although IIRC these also have 2 pistons in them, just not in the conventional sense).

My point was that the calipers are interchangeable between the 2 struts, regardless of what rotor is used. Hence you could end up with any calipers on your struts.

a bit off topic, but does anyone know what are the pros/cons of;

twin pistons on the same side against opposing each other??
