its about time for a brake upgrade in my 200b sss any ideas, having problems with the standard brakes over heating, god know's why they shouldn't have accomadated for datos with 260 @ wheels. discs actually went blu the other day, talked to bev11s and he thinks r31 struts could be the go

any help much appreciated!

I'm currently converting the brakes on my 200B (local) wagon.

so far.

DBA425U Verada 274mm vented discs (undrilled) I paid $88 ea from repco, but had to haggle down from $162 ea

VL turbo Calipers (VN V8 works as well, but not finned)

require early 200B or late 180B struts with the bigger stub axle and a 3" bolt spacing for the caliper.

1.5mm spacer for the caliper.

well what do u know, u obviously know what ur talking about thanks mate! do u know any were round the sydney area that this work could be undertaken? or could your jo blo brake clinic take care of it?

I wouldn't go as far as to say I know what I'm talking about ;) , I owe most of this info to the good people on this forum.

As far as most of it goes, a performance type automotive repair place could do it, the part they probably couldn't do is drill the undrilled discs to accept the hub, that would need to be done by a machine shop, but no doubt they'd have contacts.

Most brake places I've dealt with don't seem to like stepping out of the circle, they tend to stick to throwing pads and rotors at falc-a-dores for a buck.

Anyone know a place in Sydney?

thanks for ur support guys! i knew you would be there for me! the only prob is the green, yellow and blue things will have problems keeping up!1 :wink: we could do it at my house with all of my 3 tools,lol a hammer shifter and a flat nose srew driver! that sounds like a plan using the verada disc's and vl calipers! realistically what do u think this could be achieved for?$$$$$$$

If you have the right struts, probably $400-500 bucks or so.

roughly $200 for the 2 discs if you get just std ones, more for slotted or x-drilled. ( I got std )

Maybe $100 for VN V8 calipers, expect to pay more for VL finned ones (looks only, no performance gains AFAIK)

wheel bearings, $20?
machining the blank rotors for the hubs, $50?
the 1.5mm spacers, scrap 1.5 sheet offcut from steel merchant, $5?

I don't know, I got the last 3 items for nix.

haven't got as far as brake lines yet, still waiting for the calipers to come down from Sydney, they have the original lines and hopefully will mate up ok. (have been told they do)

I bought 2 180B complete struts and disc hubs for $90.00 (my originals have the 3 1/2" caliper bolt pattern), I can build them up then fit them when everything is complete

that's the extent of my knowledge on this so far.

I'm thinking of photographing the whole conversion set by step and writing up a quick how-to.

hopefully getting it all together within a month.

By the way, do it yourself, it really isn't that hard and won't take more than a few hours. Just spend a day on it.

Hey paydirt, what's the go with the brake lines? did the stock VL ones mate up.

I was going to swap struts over to have the caliper in front of the strut, any pros or cons in doing this?

sh*t peter, that looks neat azzzzz. i might try and start sourcing some parts! and maybe take it on my my lonesome!or a green yellow or blue crowd might wanna watch! and maybe even get dirty!

Post subject:  VL Turbo caliper / Verada disc Brake conversion

Arthur Jackson @ The Road & Rally Centre 31 Clapham Rd Regents Park Ph 9645 2143 was one of the pioneers of this conversion and you can still get it done there for a modest price. So if you are not entirely confident about your ability to do the conversion your self just take your bits along to Arthur for some "adult supervision" :lol: He also does a stage two upgrade using the same Verada discs and VL Turbo caliper frames (modified) but using calipers with larger pistons.
