Well it holds a KA that makes 50%+ more power than an L20B. I've heard that the stock rods are good to 300HP (223KW) on turbo motors...Am I saying this right? You measure in kilowatts?

I think all our KA-E and KA-DEs were RWD. Had SR20 FWD.

yep the ka24e makes more hp with lower comp and piddly camshaft
Im sure more is there with right pistons, cam and headers without
touching the ports and maybe adjustable cam sprocket.

I am not the seller or owner of this but if you look on one of our more popular auction sites there is an engine that quite a few ozdaters would be interested in

The ka24de was never allowed to race in SCCA in the states but the ka24e was and they made 340hp or so which is impressive for a 12 valve head

So, having scanned the last 24 pages I'm still unclear on whether anyone has managed a running KA24DE/L18. Has it actually happened? I'm some way through the build of one and have a few questions if someone is willing to share the answers. Things like:

- How to make vernier/adjustable sprockets for the DE head. Redrilling is possible, but it'll be an absolute ba***rd to adjust......
- How have they tackled the issues surrounding a top and bottom timing chain tensioners
- etc....

Many ta's

Read an article and saw a clip not long ago about Les Collins with L18 block+KA24 head, custom crank, rods and pistons + TB injection that made 293hp @ 8350rpm was a youtube clip I think.

Myself still interested in an L18 bottom with ka24de head but little info on making the timing side work

Can you remember where you saw the article? I'd be keen to track it down if I can.

I'll also check out youtube; thanks for the lead.

There is a guy on down under datsuns facebook page that works for Les Collins, He always posts pictures of LKA motors he builds and doesn't mind answering questions.

Im not on Facebook but would love to see the pics on how the timing mechanism is solved on the shorter L18 blocks. I would like to use the ka24de head on a sleeved 89/90mm bore L16/L18 block yet need a heads up on the mentioned to make it happen. Otherwise have no choice but to go for the easier ka24e head.

Bottom sprocket needs to be custom made simplex type. Chain tensioning system is easy once you see it in front of you. I am not going to give too much away because they are not my ideas

Thank you Lampy will be happy to buy the bits from Les if possible
as a 12v head needs a decent cam, comp, pipers, better rockers,
solid lifters & porting to get near a stock 16v ka24de with good pipes.

Just reading back a few pages....

A lower timing sprocket that can be used is a toyota 22re single row (bored to fit the L/Z series crank snout diameter). There is not enough material on the ka24 lower sprocket.
This solves the L series crank snout fitment for the bottom part of the timing case and maybe shortening the chain for the lower height L18 block as far I can understand.

22re sprocket seems to work fine, I bought one a while back and bored it out no dramas.

My intention was to find a chain that is close, then position the tensioner to suit the chosen chain (ie if the chain is a little long, move the tensioner in to take up the slack). Something along the lines of the Kameari L-series tensioner should work a treat (once I work out how to adjust it when its buried down in the timing cover).

Or if I get really keen, make a full gear train as per the LZ engines.
