Post subject:  What does this thing DOOOOOO??

Hi Brains Trust

My car is a Japanese-made 1975 180B SSS manual. There's a relay in the driver's footwell directly below the fuse box that I can't find on the only wiring diagram that I have, and I can't work out what it actually does. The part number (25230-89913) points to a 12V 30A relay. It's got two blue wires (no trace) and one green (no trace), and I can' find a matching device in the wiring diagram. I have a spare wiring loom out of an auto SSS and it has the same relay (which I've also swapped in to see if it does anything).

I've removed it from circuit and everything still seems to work. I know what it *isn't*:
Light relay (running lights or headlights)
Horn relay
Rear demister relay (colours are wrong and doesn't switch on turning on the demister switch)
Instrument voltage regulator
Anything to do with the heater fan
Anything to do with windscreen wiper or washers

I'm running out of things that use electricity in the car. Please help save what remains of my sanity: what does it do?

Thanks
Duncan

It may be the Inhibitor switch for the auto trans. version.
Prevents starting the engine if the stick is in in D, 1, 2, etc.
Should be bypassed in the manual trans version.
Here is a link to the SSS wiring diagram, it may be relevant: -
