Hi All,

I have just stripped my 1600 to start prepping for paint. I tend to put an SR in it using the Datsport fitting kit.

I have finally had the chance to check everything out and have found a pretty messy repair to the driver side rail where the sway bar/castor rod connects. I believe the castor rod contact point may have been ripped off at some point.

From what i know the repair is pretty solid and the car has been put through its paces over the years by it's previous owner.

My question is what to do with it?
1. Do i leave it and just clean it up as much as possible?
2. Do i grind it all off and get it re-repaired or
3. Replace the rail (big job me thinks)
4. Any other options?

Please let me know your thoughts.

My advice: strip it off back to OEM metal and have it re-built by a competent repairer.
If that is within your capabilities then all the better.

Agree.
I never trust anything I can't see when it comes to 44 year old chassis.

Hi All,

So i took the plates off the rail, well what was left of the rail. Looks like it was not an accident repair, but a rust repair.

Thanks for the advice.

Looks pretty ugly but with the appropriate cutting and pasting, will polish up OK
