G'day guys,

The twin hitachi carburettors that came with a L18sss motor that I purchased recently have some extra contraptions that the carburettors on my 1974 610 coupe don't have. I would like to know if any one can identify these components and also if some one can identify these carburettors (the ones with the extra bits on them) by model number.

Also, do any of these components increase or otherwise affect performance in these carburettors?

Original carburettors from coupe:

And now the other carburettors with the extra bits

I've put monocles on the 'extra' bits that I'm referring to.

And with out the monocles

Thanks guys, any help will be greatly appreciated.

These are the carburettors that are being rebuilt to go into my wagon 8) :

All to do with emissions is my guess.
Same with the flat top Hitachi's in general.
They were cleaner than the round tops but don't perform as well :(

The round unit is a BCDD ( boost control deceleration device)holds throttle open on over run. block it off.

The cylindric unit is an idle up device, air con etc. block it off.

Not my choice of carbs, earlier dome tops are better to tune & set up, more performance.

Awesome! thank you Baz.

Regarding the quote above: are you referring to the 'round unit' in the middle or on the right of the picture. For clarity let's say the component on the left of the picture is 'a', the middle is 'b' and the component on the right of the picture is 'c' (I should have labelled the markings like this when I was putting them on  ).

I would like to upgrade these carburetors, though these are what I have at the moment and they'll just have to do for the time being :(

Thank you once again.

The unit on the right & the centre are combined. B&C
You can remove them completely.
