can someone give me some direction on how to install these stainless sill moulds? when i installed the moulds, they still stick out about 10ishmm away from body.

Is it just these clips (below) that hold the moulds on? or am i missing something?

i dont wanna push too hard and dent the things. i got them finished and polished, so they're in excellent condition.

cheers! :woohoo:

Yep, clips go inside the moulding, then push (reasonably firmly) onto the sills.

Only thing I can think of is that you're not pushing hard enough and its only the first bit of the clip that's holding it in the hole. From memory (its been a lot of years....), they will grab a little when they are pushed on up to the red line in the pic below, but you need to keep pushing and go past there, so that the two little "arms" of the clip compress together, then spring open again when its pushed onto the sill up to the green line.

I vaguely recall having to give it a bit of a "thump" with the side of a fist to get it to clip on.

I can check if you really get stuck as my old 1600 still has its original trims on it.

Here you go, straight from the spares manual.

I had a look at my spare set of chrome strips, the clips are "upside down" tcompared to how the parts manual shows (flatter bit is at the top of the strip), I don't think it matters though.

Both my spare set and the set on my car have bolts / self tappers through either end rather than the bolt / clip setup shown in the pic, but I think that's just dodgy previous owners.

I fitted these clips from the same source and had no problems getting them to lock the mouldings flush up to the sill. Give each one a good push with the palm of your hand, you wont dent the sill.

From distant memory there was a fair bit of friction between the clip and the hole. It helped to hold the moulding with both hands and "wiggle" it up and down as you press it in at each clip hole. each side to side movement of the wire clip helped it to slip in a bit further - if you get my meaning.

Draging an old thread from the depths here, but is anyone able to give me a diameter/quantity for the holes?

And how far from the sill edge are they?

From the rear wheel arch, the rearmost hole is 40mm in and 20mm down from the top of the sill.
There are 5 holes in the sill, and one more at the base of the front guard, all 20mm from the top of the sill and 320mm apart.
The spacing of the holes isn't super critical since the trim retaining clips slide along inside the trim anyway.
