Post subject:  re painting over old paint

hey, im repainting my car (the same colour) which was painted about 8 years ago from bare metal. i am currently rubbing back paint with wet n dry (320grit) but wondering if i need to, or is it best to, put primer all over the old paint or can i just paint over the old paint with the colour? pros and cons? using acrylic paint same as last time. some spots i am going back to the primer from 8 years ago so it looks a bit patchy. will that make a difference?

Yes you will need to use primer.

no you dont need primer if your puting the same paint back on. ruff it up with 600 dont go back to the primer thair is no need and you will have trouble keeping the care straight. do your repairs(you need to prime them and etch prime if you go to bare metal) then put the jam on

I agree. If it the same paint system. Prepsol before you start rubbing it back so you are no scratching dirt and road crap into the paint. Rubb it back I'd say 400 then 800 and spray away.

Also agreed. If you're respraying it the same as last time. Rub the clear back until there is a good "solid" surface. That respray. Colour over colour. If you've taken it back to primer, spray the colour over the primer first, allow to dry. Than apply your final coats. Will help it blend better.

Pics or it didnt happen too ;)
