Post subject:  180b strut difference

ive been reading thorugh all the brake upgrades for 180b's and they say to use a 74 or later model strut, what is the difference between the earlier model and laters model struts? and why cant i use the earlier model struts for brake upgrades

The early struts have the same tiny stub axle and bearings as 1600 struts and also have a different mounting ear offset.

also the spacing between the holes is different and I think from memory the inserts were slightly different in length but not much.

The caliper hole spacing is definitely the same between early & old 180B at 3"/76.2mm; the 3.5"/88.9mm spacing was on 200B etc.
