Ah ok. Maybe the luck I had with that was to counter my L20B luck in years later....

Looking good Bob

The pipe from the compressor to the cooler will get pretty hot - did you use that engine block paint again? B/c I'm thinking the exhaust paint I have left over from the mitsi might have been a better option.

Oh well, if it all burns off we can unbolt it and repaint it in the high-temp stuff.

Got the car firing on 'start you bastard' - so it is getting spark but no fuel. I think I haven't put 12v or a ground somewhere where there should be one. I will pour over a wiring diagram tomorrow and see what I have done. Getting close though..

Well, the combination of a) the inlet plumbing to the ca18 manifold; b) the orientation of the thermostat housing outlet and c) the different radiator tank outlet orientation on the bluebird radiator have neccessitated some *creative* radiator plumbing.

But I think the sheer awesomeness of this approach speaks for itself.

Points to note:

1) That is a temporary setup until I have altered the outlet from the motor.
2) I didn't do that. I won't say who did, just that I didn't.

Turns out it starts and runs!! The problem was I forgot to get the resistor pack with the loom, so I rigged up some very ordinary and very temporary resistors and off it went! Very happy boy right now.

Yeah, I have been trying to think of some kind of payback for doing dodgy temporary work on my car, taking a photo, and then posting it in my thread. I think Andrew could shortly be driving one of the few Zs with a frangipani sticker on the window.

Gees, nobody appreciates true genius anymore.

Anyhow...

I finished making up the mounting brackets for the intercooler, so that's all mounted up nice.
And then we put the bumper bar back on the car, and we didn't even have to angle-grind anything, which was a bit disappointing. And the intercooler is hardly even visible. I was a bit concerned about airflow and still want to angle grind sections out of the bumper, but Bob is being a little bitch about it so it will probably all stay looking pretty much like the bottom pic.

Subtle ftw. Paint is black if you chop out the bar and itll just look like a radiator.

hook up a small thero on the back of it so in the traffic and at lights it wont turn into an 'interwarmer'

some garden spray nozzles and water will help too

Nice work. Always good to keep the cooler mounted out of the way.

You won't need to cut out the bar. My trust cooler is smaller, running 15psi & mounted behind the stock bonnet catch stay & inlets temps don't go over 30deg in the middle of summer. Give it a go how it is now and you'll be surprised how well it cools.

I thought intercooler heat soak was purely an issue with top-mount intercoolers (ie the rising heat from the engine would heat up the core) - and also the reason why FC rotary and WRX drivers sometimes switch to a front-mount setup. In any case, the sheer size of this core should prevent it from being any problem at all. My real concern would be about heat soak on the return pipe but it's fairly short and direct, and not very close to the motor or pressed up against the radiator so I doubt even that will be an issue.
