The side fitting would be the fill/syfin hose fitting as per a normal expansion tank. And the bottom fitting looks like a drain plug so you can empty dirty coolant out without removing your fancy polished tank

And those corvette ones have mulitipul inlets probably for other bleeding perposes like a 4.0L falcon

no because they're not pressurised. i've got a vw golf radiator which doesn't have a cap on it. from the factory it came with a separate, pressurised expansion tank with the cap on it. but i don't have that expansion tank. and even if i did i'd struggle to find somewhere to fit it in. which is why i want to make one up. but to do that i need to understand how to plumb it up.

ahhh, now i get it.

a system like this
[ img ]

cant you get the original VW one ?
whatever you use it's going to have to handle well over 100kpa I assume.
probably more like 150 ??????

IS YOUR RADIATOR BELOW YOUR ENGINE ?
if not then why not have a cap put on the radiator ?

yeah i probly can get the vw one, but i think it might be too big to fit where i want to put it.

the radiator's plastic. maybe i could take it to a radiator shop and they could put a cap on it, but i'm guessing that would cost $100ish. but i can make up an expansion tank for virtually nothing.

and there's two lines running to that expansion tank on the drawing!!! so what are they both for?!

Is it really an expansion tank or is it in reality simply an extension of the radiator to allow you to add water without gravity pumping it back out when the engine is higher than the top of the radiator ?
on the original VW was there an overflow as well ?
maybe the water runs through the little tank and back to the radiator, not just across the top of the radiator.

why did you use this kind of radiator ?

sorry but i know FA about these systems

i used this radiator cos i read somewhere on this site that someone else had used it in a Z18ET conversion - the outlets are on the correct side. plus whilst still only double-core, it's a fair bit longer than the stock radiator.

i went to a radiator place and they're gonna make one up out of brass for 70bux, which will fit my space requirements.

i'm not really sure how it's all meant to work either :?
