Gday, Im starting to plan my next project. Once I've finished the Sunny and bought myself a ute, I want to start rallying. I want a car that has IRS, so a 1600 would the first choice followed by a 180b. My budget would be around $5000, including the initial price of the car. Depending on what happens, my plan at the moment is to use the L18 out of my sunny so theres a big expense out of the way. I can get all the bodywork pretty right so, so basically the killer expenses are going to be the cage, suspension, driveline components, incidentals (seats/harnesses, terratrip ect.)

So basically, for around 5k, would i be able to make a resonably competitive rally car minus the cost of a relatively grunty engine?

Basically no.

Unless you want to wait years and years while you collect parts for as cheap as possible it will be quite difficult to build a competitive datsun for that sort of money.

Why do you want IRS? There is a few problems with the datsuns semi-trailing arm design which are not easy to rectify with PRC rules.

1600 - no way, just to hard to get body bits for these days.

For $5000 you would be MUCH MUCH better buying a car, you should get somthing quite ok for that money... not a world beater but a good starter car.

It definatly will work out cheaper to buy a car.

What sean said.

I wouldn't worry about being competitive yet, just get a car to learn in and don't be too worried about smacking it into a tree.

Yes, and don't go and wreck any good Datsuns while you are learning :)

L18_B310...

I plan on selling my SSS PRC3 car in the near future.
I want to fix up a few things and give it a good dyno tune then sell it for investment funds.
It had only done 3 logbooked events before I bought it, and none since :(

If your interested pm me and we can discuss it more.

I have been autocrossing a Mazda RX3 for the past two years..... So I want to take things a step further, so local club rallying would be the next step (on dirt)
