That was a lucky score! So what of the original 1600? I assume you will continue the story and tell us :)

I'm getting there!

So what of the original 1600?

Well, when I bought it, the thick layers of Ventura bus blue paint hid a myriad of secrets. And with a hard life at my hands and the fact that I completely stripped it down to its last nut and bolt and left it out in the weather uncovered as a bare shell, probably didn't help things. So here are some pics of the "Dreaded Datsun Disease":

But all was not lost with the old car as I thought it would be a perfect platform to practice some bodywork on. So I got myself a welder and as my first project I built a rotisserie:

This was all stuff I had lying around or was not being used at work: R31 front discs, wool bail racks on castors, steel racking etc.
The only thing I had to buy was a pair of trailer axles. You might say a bit of overkill when I could just use pipe inside pipe but it was fun to make and easy to spin. Check out my video. This was a light spin with one hand. The rattling sound is all the rust, dirt and crap moving around:

So that's pretty much where my original one still is, on the rottisserie . I do have plans for it (I'll get to that later) but it's the old story of time, money and motivation. Since engineering NEAT16, it has had a few changes between then and now including:

White powder coated TRX rims, enclosing the pod filter, R33 GTR strut brace among other things:

I ran around with these black rims for a while as I got sick of cleaning the brake dust off the white TRXs.
I also fitted a 450x300x76 intercooler.

In the last 12 months I did a coilover front on r31 struts using a HSD kit.
Gazelle hubs with R33 calipers. I also put R33 with Wilwood spots on the rear.

Awesome looking brakes i used the hsd kit but with datsport springs it makes an awesome set up. How'd you go tapping the strut?
