Hey everyone was looking at seam welding my 1600. Am looking at buying a mig welder with a minimum of 30 amps and it's gas and gas less. Was going to weld with gas. As car has been sand blasted and is in primer and 95% of seam sealer is gone and roll cage is being installed in about a month was just after some information. Was wondering what amperage people used to seam weld their car with gas. Also does anyone kno how thick the steel is on 1600 s. Also what technique is best. I heard running a 1 inch seam on the strut tower and then moving to the other strut tower and doing the same. Then go back to the first tower and leave 1 inch then weld 1 inch and doing this repeatedly to stop warping etc. Will be doing the whole car. Thanks everyone. Sorry for such a long post. All information is Muchly appreciated

All the info is on this site. It is not like face book.
You do a search. You can even look in the board index for information.
Here is a starter for you.

Metal on a 1600 is approx 1.2 mm thick. Ive just bought a welder not long back to do rust repairs on my 1600. I will post up some pics of welds and the specs of the machine if you like. Its a unimig razorweld 165. inverter type. It only runs as low as 40 amps on the specs and i never had it on the lowest setting for any of my panel work as it wouldn't penertrate the panel. No distortion if your patient have a plan and keep things cool.

as far as the specs go see link below. I was pretty sure when I purchased the welder it only said it went down to 40 amps but (pardon the pun) current specs say 30. anyway it does a brilliant job. ive been welding on and off for a few years. did some basic lessons a few years ago through trade school and last year a tafe course. I found it very easy to use and the more you practice the better you get. one thing I would point out is aim for a machine that has stepless control on you amps and use gas. I used argoshield light.

the following pics are when I first got the welder and started playing.
