Hi folks. I am in the States (So Cal. to be specific) and restoring an Aussie-spec 1600 wagon.

If you look at this picture, there is a (nearly) triangular gusset that attaches to the A-pillar and the fender rail. (Next to the cowl drain.) All the USDM fellows over here seem to have this gusset on their wagons.

Here's mine pictured below. The gusset is missing on both sides and even though there is a judicious amount of undercoating, there's no evidence that a piece was ever attached..

Is anyone here know the 1600 wagons well? Could this be a LHD only item? I certainly plan on making some up for the car, but it is a little strange to install them only for certain markets. My Aussie 1600 is quite different than the US ones, though....

Thanks for the help!

My Wagon doesn't have that gusset and I've never seen any other wagon (or sedan for that matter) with that gusset fitted from original.

Plenty of people do triangulate that section to strengthen the chassis though.

Thanks Datsmo. They are not on the 2 or 4 door models here, either. Seems like all the US wagons have them. Easy enough to fit, and it seems that it certainly won't hurt to have them...
