Hey all

I was wondering, it is now 2009, why is is that we still use the same old brake fluid that we have always used. It is hydroscopic (absorbs water), affects the rubber components in time and is the best paint stripper known to man. Silicon fluids don't seem to be recommended, particularly for racing.

I am wondering if anyone has tried some other type of hydraulic fluid?

Have looked at the specs for LHM hydraulic fluid which is what Citroen use in the hydrolastic suspension systems (it also powers the brakes). The boiling point is the same or higher, but the viscoisty is also higher and so may affect braking ability as it will take longer to push through the small orifices in the brake system.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Well it's fairly cheap and works well. Also in the near future most cars will have electric brakes. So it's probably not viable to dive deeper into brake fluid development anymore.

You look at all the advances in Brake Fluid over the years and I'm someone has thought about it, investigated it and decided the stuff we're using is the best option. The huge temperatures involved are the driving force I think you'll find
