hi im having trouble with power in my 180b
the battery isnt going flat at all, but on idle, my lights get real dim and head unit keeps loosing power, having indicators make it even worse

the charge light is always very dimly light, and when this happens it gets brighter, also sometimes when i am driving hard - 5000rpm plus, the light comes on again

am i right to assume it is perhaps the voltage regulator, and can this simply be replaced with another unit, or do i more likely have sh*t wiring

any help would be great!!

This is when an ammeter comes in handy.
I'm guessing that the alternator brushes are worn down thus not having sufficient pressure on to the alternator commutator
Got all that :?
At high revs they start to float and cause the symptom you describe.
Unless you have a LOT of electrical load above standard, the stock alternator should be OK, once you replace the brushes.
[Of course it could be the regulator but try the brushes first, they're cheaper to replace.]
If you can, check the old brushes, you will probably find they are very short  .

I've had similar problems in 3 past 180b's. Try the brushes and if that doesnt work try the following
Check your earth, take it off and give it a good clean up
Also the little metal tabs (brass?) on the fuse box can half burn out leaving a really bad connection. Mine burnt out the headlight ones but actually did it on the back side of the fuse box so normally you wouldnt find it unless you pull the whole fuse box out. This gave really dim headlights.

If the voltage regulator craps out you normally get too much current and start blowing bulbs/melting wires
