I am having a few dramas with the ignition barrell in my 1600.
It is the stock barrel, the car has an fj20 with microtech efi unit.

What is happening is that when the ignition switch is in ignition on position it is a sloppy connection or something and there is a gap between ign and start and that is triggering the ecu to shut down as the ecu senses power from the barrell.

It has only started doing this recently, just wondering if anyone has had the same problem. I remeber someone on these forums mentioned it ages ago but i have searched and cant find it.

cheers

blayne

Hi. Yes we had the same problem just the other day. I have a wolf 3d, L18 injected Datsun 1600 rally car. We directly wired the computer to the kill-switch instead, to get around the problem. Probably put in another switch so that we can kill the computer if and when we still want power still on (ie for park lights at night or similar).

Only solution I can see is to not wire computer through ignition switch or see if you can get a better ignition switch.

I would like a new ignition switch as well if you find one.

Mark

Thanks for the reply mkyle,

yeh i sorted mine out with a bit of ringing around and found out that the ignition switch can be bypassed by joing the wires that used to go to either side of the ballast resistor together, that way you have a live circuit when ignition is turned on and whilst cranking and it doesnt go through the contacts on the ignition barrell therefore no sloppy connections.

If you want to do this ring Baz at Datsport, he talked me through the procedure step by step.

Sounds good.

Does it work well? So you can use the factory ign switch, bridge the two wires, and you don't get the drop between ON and START?

Hahaha late reply SR20datsun but yes it does work and it is still working just fine in my car at the moment.
Your ignition on signal should be tapped into this circuit and you wont get a drop between ignition and crank
