I have mentioned this beast in previous posts on supercharging
1352cc supercharged 435hp@9100
you can see the scintilla magneto, dry sump pump, injection pump & the twin 50mm injection units on the SC. This was built in the early 70s
the rules at the time was 2600cc pushrod NA
or 2000cc OHC NA
1600cc pushrod SC
or 1400CC OHC SC
as there were few strong 1400cc engines around at that time we put L13
crank & rods in an L18 block, 0.625" lift racer brown cam & head ported to 40mm, nothing could touch it at the time.
Sorry the pics are not real sharp as they were old polariod pics that have faded over the years. A friend of mine had these & bought them into the shop today. Thanks Burra.

Hey Baz, that's awesome power. I assume that the only factory nissan made items are the block and head ?

GOD DAMN!!!!

that's awesome - look at the size of those headers!

mech injection, water too? would it be running on methanol?

and that's just over 310hp per litre there in 1970 - with magneto ignition - using factory nissan rods and crank... :!:

Basically std nissan internals, WI not needed as with methanol you mix it direct into the fuel. I think we used about 8%.
After a 20 lapper the manifold was covered in ice up to about 15mm from the head. Headers were glowing, you could see the exhaust pulses through them.
did not get up on the cam until over 6K.
No flywheel or trans, just a dog clutch. Quick change diff.
such fun to drive.
Oil tank had a heater coil to plug into 240V to preheat the engine oil before racing.

Pic of my supercharged 180BSSS circa 1974.
Also supercharged methanol burner, not as much grunt as the speedcar but enough to win titles against full house v8s.

i think you might find the supercharged capacity might have gone up to 1800 cc (l18).a fellow i knew had a supercharged subaru leone 1800c flat four, which he ran in a speedcar, quite successfully, too.he used the subaru because he reckoned if he used a beetle engine everyone else would
do it.

jeeezz mate 30 odd years ago.
from memory we were using
" sir george godfrey" SCs
these were cabin pressure blowers off DC3 aircraft.
overdriven to the max.
we also had teflon stips inserted in the lobes for full sealing.
for a bout 3 meetings or so we had to dismantle the blowers & reduce the
teflon as the methanol reacted and caused the strips to grow.
as they were the old rootes type I would not waste my time using them nowadays as the AE is only 48% and screw types are over 70%

back from the past I missed this, 1800cc subey engines came in pushrods and later OHC in the 1800cc size maybe he was using the pushrod subey block from the brumby utes but the VW motors where used in speedway along time ago also and supercharged, nothing new there.

However this supercharged L series is just so crazy I still cant fathom the mere thought of driving such a beast sideways on dirt surrounded by other guys in similar v8 methanol burning monsters, the noise and vibration made real men race in this sport.
