Also, a question for those following along at home.

Should I weld up the holes in the rear guards where the "dummy" indicators fit, or fit proper indicators as I have seen done, or leave it as standard ?

I've been tossing up what to do here for a while, and I'm still undecided (but getting close to having to decide). Don't know whether I want it to look original, or clean up the lines a bit by removing them, or make a feature by fitting the same working indicator assembly that's in the front guard ??

Working indicators all the way Dave.
Just make sure you get good rubber seals so water doesn't get in!

My coupe has the working indicators standard, if you can't find anything in aus maybe you could look here in NZ (or Japan)...

Are they the same as the front ones (assuming yours is an early model) ? The indicators off the front guards on my car fit perfectly in the holes in the rear guards.

I guess that way I'll have the option of putting the "dummy" ones back in if I ever want to. I just don't like the look of them - just an ugly grey plastic blanking plate where the lens would normally be.

I also had this dilemma... wanting to keep it original, but I really didn't like the look of the grey plastic dummy indicators.
However mine is a later model, '76, so I have indicators as part of my grill assembly rather than in the front guard. I?ve seen one or two around that have the indicators fitted and they really seemed to stand out a lot from the rear quarters, they protruded out about twice the distance the dummy one did.

I ended up welding them up and it looks so much nicer, I defiantly wouldn?t put the dummy indicators back.

Fantastic job, keep the pic?s coming

Dave,

What are the ventilated discs off in your brakes collection photo?
Are you planning to fit them to 180BSSS struts?

Interested because I have a pair of these struts filling space in my shed, which I must decide whether to toss out, or rebuild and upgrade the brakes.

The ones still attached to hubs are S12 Gazelle, the ones in the middle are R33 GTS-T?? Skyline (can't remember exactly which model, but they are the bigger ones at 295mm - or maybe 298?? - diameter), and the ones on the right are Z32 300ZX (280mm diameter).

I'll be using the 280mm ones bolted up to the S12 hub, all running on R31 struts with the 4-pot caliper attached via a Datsport adapter. I'll most likely be buying new Datsport 280mm rotors as well when the time comes. The ones I have are worn out, I got given them so I could mock everything up.

None of these would fit the 180B SSS struts I have, but these are the early SSS struts that are identical to 1600 ones. I believe the later 180B's had different struts and brakes.

Hey RE: the rear guards,
In your case i would put real indicators in there. You've gone to the trouble of finding all the badges etc, why stop at the indicators.

my personnal choice would be to fil the holes up resulting in a cleaner look, and one less thing to have to wire in/modify, however it depends on what you want to do with your car, do you want an original looking vehicle? or an improved straighter one

Mines the later model so my front indicators are in the grill so I cant answer that question.

I did notice that on the original pic of your white one with stripes, the front indicator sticks out about 20mm, where as my rear ones sit pretty much flush.

Best photo of mine I could find on this computer, I'll take some close ups if you want?

Wow, i saw that pic and had to look close to make sure that it wasn't mine!! Nice colour by the way.... :D

I'd be interested in seeing some pics of your rear indicators if you get a chance? Too late for mine now, not that i'm unhappy with the way that it looks, but i'd be interested to see how they do fit.

Rear 1/4 nearly finished 8-) Only have to weld the new outer section into place.

All the bits in grey have been hand-fabricated from sheetmetal, as has a fair bit of the outer piece.

Nope, I used a router, lump of wood, odds and ends of steel and a BFH.

Routered the pattern into the wood, then just used the hammer and various dollys (an old drill for the round one along the bottom and a piece of bar shaped with an angle grinder for the three vertical ones) to bash the sheet metal down into the pattern in the wood which was placed underneath the sheetmetal.

Would have been better using a press to press the pattern into it, but I don't have one so the hammer had to suffice. Its not 100% perfect, but I'm happy with the result.
