It is a cool bike. I have clip on bars, cafe seat, just got the rear wheel ( stock ) streched from stock size of 2.5 in to 5.5 in. Fits the stock swingarm ( I want the stock look , modified stock look ) so that wheel will look nice. I will be able to use a tire ( from stock 130/80/18) 180/55/18.

I have Telefix clip on bars on it. I will install a RAASK rear set as soon as I install the rear wheel ( powder coating the wheel in black.)

I also found a 1100F motor ( this bike came in 750/900 and 1100 engine cc) which I will rebuild and install in my 750. It will be a sleeper, a 750 with the hearth of a 1100. :D

I would like an older cafe bike, but here those bikes are difficult to get around, and if found, get ready to lose an arm and 2 legs! :?

Cheers.

Wheel well finished (after welding in 20-odd pieces of sheetmetal and lots of hammer and dolly work). True 180B enthusiast's may notice the mistake I made when fabricating the repair sections for the wheel well :?: :?

One bit of rust to go, under the radiator support panel, then I can start straightening it all up and paint it :impatient:

Nice one Dave, good to see you've got a bit more spare time to work on it these days!

Yep, I've had a fair bit of spare time recently and got stuck into finishing off the bodywork. However, I may have done something silly that will involve stopping work on the SSS and putting in a fair bit of effort over the next few months getting my 1600 110% race-ready - stay tuned for further developments as they unfold  :giggle: :?

Anyway, just about finished the entire underside of the coupe. Should have it coated in POR15 over the weekend, and I'll probably do a little bit of bog-work to tidy up a few little patches then paint the underside and interior of the shell over Xmas sometime. Then I can start re-fitting some stuff to the shell :impatient:

Soon

I may do a little bit more work on the 1600 (get the new, larger SU's rebuilt and fitted, electronic dizzy fitted, get it tuned), or I may just leave it sitting in the shed for a while and get back onto the SSS.

Question Dave... What are you doing to detail the underside of the car? Other than the POR15 and spraying it? Are you going to bog fill and smooth it all out. I was going to do it to mine before the body deadener. But not sure if body filler is the right way to go on the underside of the car, would it chip off? But not sure if i can be bothered to go for a file finish on the underside. Keen to know what you're planning on doing!

I'm going to bog a few spots - main area is just a light skim over the spare wheel well repairs, there's a few other very minor spots that will need bog also. Its been panel-beaten to the best of my ability and wil only need a few mm of bog (hopefully :? ). I'm not taking it to extremes like smoothing spot weld marks, etc, just getting it back to factory-fresh look and painting it.

I'm lucky that apart from the rust it was a very straight car.

My main worry will be that the bog will crack if there's any flex due to the weight of the spare wheel in the boot. Time will tell.

I'm going to be starting on it in the next couple of weeks, will post progress pics.

Well, I'm back in the ring to take another swing (anyone guess what was on the CD player in the shed tonight  )

Been tackling the absolute last bit of rust in the car, the box section underneath the radiator. I've purposefully left this till now because I thought I may have needed to modify the mounting points for thecaster rod bracket in order to get everything lined up with the 200B front end.

I ended up leaving it in the standard position after all, and have decided to make custom caster rod mounting brackets instead. I did strengthen it up a little by inserting a bit of 2mm RHS, cut down to a sort-of "U" shape.

And the underside of the car is now completely finished, all repairs have been smoothed with a light coat of bog (only really needed to do the boot floor and a minor patch in one footwell), and then sprayed with POR15 "Tie Coat" which supposedly gives the best adhesion to the POR15 rustproofing paint already on the underside. I sealed all the joints and seams in the body with Sikaflex 227, left it to dry for a week, then topcoated with the POR15 TIE Coat. The POR15 wouldn't set where it was painted over the Sikafles  . I ended up wiping it off with a rag soaked in thinners, then tried a coat of 2 pak polyurethane over the Sikaflex instead - worked perfectly

And I've changed my mind on colour yet again. Hopefully the last change, as I hope to have some colour on it in the next few months.

Underside all done, except for re-coating the seams

Starting to cut the rust out of the box section underneath the radiator - ended up cutting more out, plus removed the welded-in strengthening brackets that the caster rod bracket bolts onto.

[ img ]

Strengthening section - this was made from 2mm RHS (cut down into a "channel" shape) and now goes right across the box section rather than being two little 100mm sections.

And it goes here. This section is almost finished now, didn't have the camera in the shed tonight to get photos.

Nice work. I'd pump those chassis rails full of fish oil before i'd paint it though. Good insurance policy against rust. And you can get to it now before you put a lick of paint on it, so you won't get runs on the paint when it drips out of cracks (which you have already filled wit Sika - Nice! I should do that.)
