Good to see this threads still getting added too, and usefull to someone...

I thought it would be a nice idea to have a common area we can go to rather than everyone starting new threads covering things over and over

As for the 4 Port head... Manifolds can be easily found on TRADEME... NZ's ebay style site. Heaps of parts that are rare here can be found quite easily over the water. I found it easy and much cheaper when searching for VR4 bits

Someone wont come to you, but if you seek you will find.

Simon

On a quiet note for those on the inside: 1ZZ-FE Cam buckets are the same diameter as the CA18DET ones ;) Toyota charge ~$22AUD per lifter and don't think that this isn't the way I'll go if I need to switch out from Hydraulic lifters. I'm pretty sure no one has done this before, as it's rather random. Using these lifters means new valves but critically means that, one can use much longer (and therein stronger/stiffer) valve springs ;) JA
JA,
have you done this mod to your head? the vid sounds like your ca is very responsive and clean revving.

just on a side note for fun Ive inquired on a custom 54mm stroke ca18det billet crankshaft to suit cheap mitsu H-beam 4g63 conrods w/ stock ca18det pistons which gives 2.673 rod stroke ratio
with better valves springs and solid lifters will allow a sweat free 10,500rpm for good power.
Just an idea for now 1190cc x 1.7 = 2023cc just under the 2030cc limit for U2ltr IP class.
Easy to source parts, tuning and budget build after initial cost of crankshaft.

Nah, still running the hydraulics with Tomei 270 pro cams and springs. It was just an observation if anyone was looking to do something a little crazy. You'd also need to work out a valve/spring/cam combination that'd work (Not to difficult but largely cost prohibitive.) The reason I stuck with hydraulics and an un-stroked engine was that if I was so swap to solids and stroke to 2L, I'd much rather switch the whole package to the much more modern Black-Top 3SGE BEAMS motor (rebuilt for boost of course.)

Also detailed photos of the Tomei ARMS M8270 can be found here. I've bought one and it will be replacing the GT2876R that I've currently got. My fabricator is currently busy with that and a host of other wild mods (photos soon.)

Side note: the Tomei ARMS M8270 does not fit on a factory CA18DET exhaust manifold, as it will on a factory SR20DET manifold. Was my initial plan but no...

Cheers
JA

looks like Hydraulic tappets are as good as the suzuki g13b ones which rev all the way past 9k rpm without issues

Hey D,

Thanks for the support. A full list of the current specifications and planned future changes can be found here. On the final page of the document. The car is being built up to Sports Sedan S2 regulations. There's a good chance I'll be changing turbochargers to an EFR BorgWarner unit.

Solid Lifters aren't an issue. Keep in mind most Toyota Engines have them out of the box (4AG, 1/2JZ, 3SGTE, All V6 up until recently, 1UZFE, the list goes on...) and I've never had to "Adjust my Shims" in my 3SGTE powered Caldina GT-T. Hell the 1ZZ-FE and 1SZ-FE have completely solid buckets. You actually have to buy the correct thickness cam bucket  Very, Very light, no Shims.

And just to pull this back on topic with a obscure piece of information  On a quiet note for those on the inside: 1ZZ-FE Cam buckets are the same diameter as the CA18DET ones ;) Toyota charge ~$22AUD per lifter and don't think that this isn't the way I'll go if I need to switch out from Hydraulic lifters. P.S: Thought I'd upload an image that JUN sent me a few years ago when I wanted to purchase their solid lifters but they couldn't supply them: Enjoy

just found out the following toyotas also can be used

2uzfe shim under bucket
rb26de shim under bucket
late 3sge celica shim under bucket

Mine is still alive after a few years of thrashing.
Current spec is:
Forged bottom end
ID1000 injectors
GT2871 .64 52T up to 25psi

LS2 truck coils
Nistune

Not 100% on power somewhere over 250rwkw
No oil mods
No water mods
still alive after ~100 laps around wakefield and ~30 passes at WSID

Anyone know about the head oil restrictors for the ca18de/t motors?
I thought the ca16de and ca18de have the same restrictor from factory while the turbo blocks dont have this restrictor installed to increase oil flow to the head which then causes issues on the bottom end as the oil squirters also combine to draw too much oil overall from the bottom end with the head.

These is a factory restrictor in place of ?mm size, I've had a single 1.5mm diameter oil restrictor installed in my engine when it was built. Information can be found about the exact one here.

I've also had oil drains installed at the back of the head, 7L sump, in addition to a revised breather setup and a catch can that returns to the sump. I will not suffer again from oil starvation. If I do, it's Dry sump time.

Doesnt sound like you will suffer any such issues again! 7L of oil Rockefeller is happy.

what rpm are you taking here up to Jordan? The celica with such a light motor
would have to have something like 50/50 weight ratio by now as I remember
the 2tc weighed about 145kg fully dressed while the 18rc about 175kg!
The ca18det is supposed to be about 10kg under the 2tc.

Im getting a quote for a 55mm billet ca12det crank to suit cheap 4G63-23 h beam rods
just an idea for under 2ltr racing - rod stroke ratio will be 2.653
