Wellll .... seeing as I started this thing quite a few years ago, may as well close it out, as I'm out of the Datsun game. Still think the 1600 is the BEST car EVER, but that is not the point.
Havn't learnt that much it seems...... selling my house and there is a heating oil tank around the side which I had to move because of a drainage problem I was working on..... there was at least 100 litres of oil in it, hadn't been used for years, but when I felled the tank (and broke a breather pipe for the toilet, of course) - I remembered an old mate of mine, Simon, who used to deliver heating oil in Canberra. I was his offsider on the odd occasion and sometimes after he filled up someones tank he would put a few gallons into his truck (at their expense, of course
) because 'heating oil is pretty much diesel'.
So I did a bit of research on the internet webby thing to confirm .. and yes, heating oil is pretty much low grade diesel! Result! So i fed my Hilux 3 litre diesel (not D4D, we are talking old technology here, but it is fuel injected
) the odd 5 or 10 litres of heating oil mixed in with normal diesel and things seemed to go ok for a while, until I was heading down the eastern freeway and experienced a sudden but intermittent loss of power.
Which never went away.
..... I'm up for a set of injectors and a new diesel pump, which will be in the region of 3K by the time its installed. Brilliant! Could have saved $100 but its gonna cost me 3k. Good deal!
All I have learnt from all my mistakes is that I'm never, ever going to learn!
Good luck to all you enthusiasts. Go Datto!
Cheers, Neil
