guys with datto 1600s and sr20det/fj20dets

Can I ask you guys what sort of IC and rad combo you are running and how much and where you cut to fit them?

I have been looking at the hybrid jobbies which are 560mm from end of inlet pipe to end of outlet pipe, 75mm deep and 300mm tall.
It does look like I have to cut about an inch or either side and scallop around the bottom for the pipes. Another option is to get one not so wide and have the rad modified to suit.

any opinions.

cheers

I used an N13 pulsar one in my fj conv. but the hoses are different on a sr so forget that ....what about a custom IC & Rad. alloy combo... There are a few places that make them up around town.

I got a brand new custom 2 core crossflow radiator made for my CA18 for $300...no cutting.
then a VR4 intercooler...needed a bit of cutting up of the front valence...but still sits behind the grill.
( I know it's not a SR/FJ...but when it's custom...it doesn't matter what engine )

Im using a N13 pulsar radiator, and a subaru water-to-air IC setup. Amount of cutting required to the front - NONE.

The cooler is off a subaru liberty. I got the cooler, pump and heat exchange for $330 cash. Radiator was $216 brand new (trade price)

My 1600 has a radiator and intercooler set up done by Richard from ARE it is what he likes to call modular radiator and intercooler it also has a 16" thermo fan all fits quite neatly behind the grill. This setup has been going strong in the car for nearly six years has supported 433bhp.

hey guys

I am looking at one of the 280mm x 300m x 75mm hybrid coolers. I know it is not huge but at 460mm overall it will fit nicely in the front of the 1600 with about 30mm cut either side of the rad panel which I was going to do anyway. Just need to find a radiator not much wider than the original and alot thinner. Like an n13 or corolla one.

wont be a hp beast but should be good for a fair bit of oomph.

what do people think?

the cooler is at japparts.com.au or flyn.com.au or modyourcar.com.au

pretty cheap at just under $400 delivered aswell :)

cheers

NIS 016 can I ask how much?

Im lookign at pics of your setup(not fitted) on the ARE website, I like it :)

Wondering if there would be room up front for AC condensor ?

Any chance of a look/pics of your setup, Im in Brisbane, you?

Cheers,
Mal

Hehe.. i had a bit of a giggle when I asked ARE the same question re Mick's intercooler (only intercooler). The answer: $7K due to labour. I'm guessing (hoping) it didn't cost him that much because god damn...

jimmy, have you taken the forward pulley off the SR yet? I think it is the power steer or air conditioning one - redundant now.
Also, have you even fitted the SR yet? All the SR fitting kits set the engine far back against the firewall to the benefit of space for the radiator/intercooler.
Are you using thermo fans or the cluch fan?

Yes I have of course removed the power steering pump and ac condensor. Engine has been in and out a few times. datsport kits sits in back but ot asfar back as a maddat kit kit etc as far as I can tell.

I will be using a thermo fan as I do not have the clutch fan.

I have measured it and it seems 460mm across the front is about how much I would be happy to cut. IE 3mm either side of exiting rad panel. I should alos be able to sit the IC and rad behind the grill if the rad is very thing and not overally wide.

this sound ok?

I know I do not want to get a tiny little rad that doesn't provide any cooling but I do need to get the ic pipes around it without losing the front of a car.

cheers

I said the front pulley on the crank, not the pumps. Being a ribbed pulley it takes up a bit of space.

so what do I do with the alternator?
Shouldn't that have a pulley to run off as well?
and the water pump?

cheers
