I know this has been posted before, but lets have an update. What are some of the positive/negative/strange things people have commented about your datsun?
Lets really get this one rolling!

Seeing as i don't really drive my 1600 much yet, i haven't had much feed back except the usual "Are you going to SR it?" and of course the "it's so cute"

In my experience, the worst feature of my genuine 1 owner 1971 P510 was the SHITHOUSE Lucas electrics that the Australian Goverment INSISTED to be installed.
I had a few mates that all bought 1600s about the same time and they ALL had Lucas alternator problems.
Geeeeeez, where does the customer fit into the AUSTRALIAN MADE plan :?: :?: :?:

just about every time i'm at the wreckers, someone asks me if the 1600's for sale. i reckon i could have sold it a dozen times by now.

even ford/holden nuts normally have good things to say about 1600's even if they hate "that japanese sh*t".

Yes, I can relate to the "is it for sale" diatribe.
I simply say,
YES
$20,000 and its all yours!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sevice stations when refuelling; "whats in that?"

Random Breath tests; "yes, exhaust is a bit noisy"

Engineer after lap up the mountain;"your fucken joking, Mal, thats insane"

Siliva owners; "my mates got one with [instert inflated figure here]rwhp"

oh and like everyone else.."is it for sale mate" soon followed by "they not worth that much mate!" :)

Cheers,

i have my SSS resting in the workshops corner of death at the moment. occasionally somebody walks in, spots it & asks " is that a 180b? who would want to build one of those?" needless to say they get a quote much higher than anyone else would. most people i know just keep asking me when i'm going to do something with the bloody thing.

Had the thumbs up from an alfa driver the other day... Musta be the webers.... :)

Had a guy in the petrol station trying to work out what it was last week.... hes like

"no way thats a datsun, they made some other good cars too"

I said "You mean the Z's?"

"yeah thats them the 280z"

Theres also a guy in hawthorn who owns a really shmick red, Datsun 2000 roadster. Anyone know him? he always waves, whether I'm in my 1600 or my dads 240z (like today).

As for the girls... we'll I think you would have more luck in a bright yellow new beetle :P

And everyones owned some kind of datsun... and if you get them talking they will always tell you how they should have kept it blah blah...

Ive had these sort of comments so far in my 510,
''thats a nice car,i had one when i was a kid''
''Datsuns are a piece of sh1t''
''its good to see young people getting into older cars, not this new plastic stuff''
''Hey bro, thats a sick car, what is it?Is it turbo?''
''Do you do drifting?''
''Have got a rotary in that thing?'' (75 works cam and no socks on 45webbers idle at traffic lights) 8)
''Its sooo cute''.... ''can i come for a drive?''
Then after they passenger in it...'' its very loud and noisey, what was those rattling noises?''
Depends on who comments, everyone has their diff opinions.

when i had my RX2, one chick was like "oh that's a nice looking old car. i love the lights - can i go for a drive?"
i said, "sure, hop in" - hoping for some backseat action later.
well, that didn't eventuate. i ripped it out of the carpark and floored it. i chirped to second approaching 100kph and she screamed out "take me back! take me back!".
so i did.
when we got out, she says "what the hell is in that? it sounded like an aeroplane! ( ) i never new old cars were that fast!"
i just smiled and said "it's a rotary. they use these engines in small aircraft."
the  look i got from her and her friends was priceless.

but yeah, no datto comments other than

old man, servo "can i sit in it? i used to have one of these"
young bloke with his head in the passenger window at car show "all these dattos smell the same!"
all my dad's mates "they don't build em like this anymore"
my dad "you'll never get this thing finished".

blah blah blah

"180B's are ugly" - While driving my 180B road car.
"How much for the car?" - People walking past my 1600 road car.
"Datos make good rally cars don't they?" - When talking about my rallycar...

People say to me "Why do you drive that piece of sh*t?" referring to my 180B road car, and I usually reply with, "Because it has basically the same rear suspension technology as a current model Commodore and it was built in 1974 and only cost me $500!"
