Post subject: | Half shafts - what's meant to be inside? |
Hi! I'm rebuilding my half shafts prior to fitting a new LSD and I'm confused. My half shafts (originally out of a 240K) have three spacers and four balls per spline - and as far as I can tell, the half shafts are completely original. Everything picture I've found online (like this one: https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/top ... d-rebuild/) show that each spline has three spacers and three balls, but this image from a parts catalogue (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ID4_HvN80T4/T ... sembly.JPG) shows three spacers and 4 balls. Edit: found another image from a service manual that shows three and three: https://www.classiczcars.com/uploads/mo ... c3d5ec.png So: what's correct?? Why is there a difference? Thanks! Duncan |

Well, from my point of view, the more balls the better |

Hi!
Closing this one out: I used three ball bearings and three spacers. Thanks! Duncan Mainly because the car is lowered into the weeds, so extra length in the half shafts is probably valuable. |
