Post subject:  Stanza L16 Idle Issues

G'day guys, not sure if this is the right place to post stuff like this but I just can't work this out myself and need someone to point me in the right direction.

I'm having issues getting my 1979 Stanza to run at all in idle. It will start and run while I am continually pumping the accelerator but as soon as I stop it will die.

I've changed the fuel filter and checked for blockages but can't seem to find any. and I don't want to do anything more intrusive/expensive without having first identified the problem. Anybody have any ideas on where I should be looking next?

Have you changed anything or has this just happened out of the blue?
It may be a hard task to diagnose remotely :? :? :? :?

Yah I figured it would be haha. The engine just died on me one day as I was driving and wouldn't start up again. Had to get tow home.

It might be as simple as a missing idle adjustment screw.
Do you have a manual or any info. on the carburettor?

Yeah I have a manual. I've done a bit of playing around with the carby today. Working off the recommended adjustment technique in the manual. Screws are all there.

I've also opened up the fuel pump and the diaphragm looks good still. Can't find anything in the fault finding section of the manual relating to this issue and having trouble with my very limited mechanical knowledge lol.

Does the float bowl window show a decent level of fuel in it?

Yes, just over halfway.

You may have a blocked jet for the idle circuit: might be time for a "Spring" clean.
The jets are accessible at the base of the float chamber, they can be unscrewed and checked for crud.

Turns out it just needed a good clean, running fine now.

Thanks Nissanman!

My pleasure! What sort of residue did you find??

Nothing that stood out, just a bunch of grime. Didn't realise that my carburetor was actually steel coloured and not brown/black haha.

Really need to give the whole engine bay a good huck out tbh, maybe when I get some time later on.
