Hi all :)

1985 Bluebird GXE, this week the interior dash and tail lights randomly come on / stay off when I turn the switch. Headlights remain on.

I've read the wiring diagram and there aren't any relays in between, so I'm fairly sure the problem is either in the switch for the lights in the steering column, or a wiring connector further along. I also have no interior fan at all, no clock, no gauges; but they've all been gone for a while now, each having become intermittent before dying completely.

Any suggestions where best to look?

Never mind. Fixed it myself.

Switch had become intermittent, possibly through corrosion. Cut a small bit of fine sandpaper, soaked in metho, and used it to file the contacts in the switch. (Can be done without removing the switch.)

Jaycar sell a great product that resurrected all my 50 year old Fairlady Niles switches from no-worky to full-worky.
Should have seen the crud that it got out :roll:

Just be careful using an abrasive, it will remove the tungsten coating on the contacts and make them sensitive to high current resulting in burning out :?

I have something like that in my office, but of course I was at home. If it does it again I'll be prepared next time.
