Depends whether your using a conventional points ignition? If it is a conventional points driven coil Stowers is right, it should go to the distributor. There is only a 12 volt primary and high voltage secondary winding on these units so there is nothing special about the connections. If your using an MSD control module I still wouldn't expect it to have a direct connection from the coil to the body negative.

if running points when key ON you need the stock ballast and maybe another ballast in series to keep the points from burning up. stock 510 ignition is 1.6 for ballast and 1.6 for a stock coil. If electronic EI type distributor then your fine and the dist is made to use a .7ohm(most cases) coil and NO ballast. olddatsuns.com in the tech section has a write up |

Iv gone away from conventional contact breaker point system and running a electronic ignition distributor kit. I havent moded the stock wiring harness in any way just re connected wires same as a original coil was setup. Green and pink wires run back to the dizzy, green wire -, pink wire +. The other wires connected on + side are for the auto choke I have earthed the coil to the chassis only because of the original coil wiring had this particular setup. Your saying this doesnt apply to elec ign.? |

If your running a distributor conversion kit, the connections for the coil will depend on what kit it is. Do you know what brand and model? Also, the wiring shown connected to the coil in the photo is not factory fitted wiring for a 1600 so that might complicate the issue? |

Previous owner had ran wires to horn and alarm system from the coil, i have now removed that wiring and left only 2 wires connected to the dizzy |
