Post subject:  Roll cage in Victorian registered vehicle. HELP!!

Hey guys,

New to jumping on the forums and also into a Datsun 1600 i recently purchased.
Wanting to set it up on Club Rego probably threw the Nissan Car Club of victoria and also looking into getting a 6 point cage installed just for the added safety at the occasional track day and hill climb ect. But also still be able to take it out on a nice weekend for a blast. Have made a couple calls to guys that have done cages in 1600's such as Brown Davis down in bayswater and also a place called AGI Engineering in SA but unfortunately they dont sell a bolt in cage as yet and obviously wont drive from Melb to SA to get it done!

Has anyone done or have this set up i am wanting? Having troubles trying to get answers on what i can and cant have on club permit plates.. (and also who can build one and get it engineers signed off)

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Regards, Luke

I'm kind of in the same boat. I wanted a bolt in half cage, but potentially could be talked into a bolt in 6 point or similar.
I spoke to Brown Davis too.
The 6 point with a few mods and get it welded in is the next step, but can't justify the cost at the moment.

Short answer is no unless you know a friendly engineer. Im looking at doing a bolt in 4 point for my 120y with bolt in front intrusion bars that can be removed for the street. Also with a half cage the rear seat needs to be removed and the car registered as a 2 seater.

Luke, I can't seem to find the piece of paper with the quote on it, so I am going from memory.
4 point (half cage) was approx $1100.
6 point was approx $1800 or $1600, I can't remember. I'm not sure if this included removable intrusion bars or not.
6 Point targa with single diagonal in roof was $2600 ish or more.

Think that sounds about what i got quoted. But saying that everyone i talk to says he quotes his work pretty high..

I have trade school this week in Croydon so i might try get down tomorrow and get some more information off him. As obviously will need to get an engineers cert too. Which im not sure how hard is going to be! :?
