Post subject:  Wheel Offsets and Wheel Widths?
Hey guys. I was SURE this would be a well covered topic but, as personal as it is, it SHOULD be a good guide for what works.

Searching for "offsets" turned up nothing and, that is what I am chasing info on.

What offsets and wheel widths you guys running that fit under standard guards??

If I can help it, I don't want to modify the guards at all and, as I am sure is normal, don't want scrub.

If you got pics of fitment, that'd be great to give me an idea of how "hella flush" it all looks at what size and offset.

Appreciate it guys.

What front end/struts are you using? Thats the first question. No point in asking what everyone else has if their setups are completely different mate.

unsure at this point to be honest. I will be upgrading them for street/track use (9:1). At the moment though, it is a shell.

So... a nice useful and common kit would be adapting to and building off of the R31 struts. Lets work from there.

Having said that, a lot of me wants to put coils in the back end so, i might simply end up getting something off the T3 boys... Hard to say at this juncture.

Ha ha, na dude this forum unfortunately is all but dead :( :( not sure where everyone went but they ain't here anymore.

R31 type struts are good for running +40 17" wheels that were popular around the turn of the century.
Now it seems people are running wheels with more dish and around 15", so 200b/240k struts are more suited.

What style, offset, size wheels are you looking to run??

The difference between R31 struts & 200B struts is only 4 mm in offset. Do not get confused between lower control arm lengths.
too much dish will be detrimental to the handling.

My ideal wheel would be a 16" Enkei Compe wheel. Look good and are great value.

As for offset, i know it'll depend what i end up doing but, it'd be cool to see which choices others have made.

You and I have had this chat. I am not looking to go and increase the track but to get some more width in the rear would be nice i think. That's where offset comes in. A nice positive offset could bring the happiness of wheel width without making it feel like you are being dragged around by the road. You mentioned that 16" x 7"s would be the MAX you would go. And that is about what i think i will end up trying to achieve too.

Ive commented a few times in threads about offsets.
Usually along the lines of:
"there are a lot of variables like;
what rim diameter and width will you be using?
what model Datsun?
sedan or wagon?
what struts and hubs are you using?
do you want to lip the guards or leave std?
Do you have camber plates in the front or camber correction in the rear?
What ride height and will you be using and are you using extended lower control arms etc."

These all affect what rim offset you go for as some might tuck and be fine where as other might not and either hit things or hang out past the guards for an instant defect when a cop sees you out and about on the street.

On a standard 1600 I liked the factory 15x6" R31/sigma turbo rims. They are all between +25 and +30mm.
Recently on my wagon ive fitted 15x7's with +25 at the front and +18 in the rear with only mild lipping of the front guards using lowered 240K struts and no camber plates or ext control arms.
This is on what I call std offset datsun struts i.e. 1600/180B/200B/240K etc.

R31 struts can have slightly more +'ve offset rims.
280zx struts can have slightly more -'ve offset rims.

yea but how much is too much?

ruined scrub radius... bump steer... maybe dish looks bad on paper?, but I wont complain at all about my setup with 0 offsets and +1 offsets I've had. its one of the best handling changes I did.

I'm no race or street car Connoisseur, but mine rides straight, no bump steer and turns in neutrally and beautifully like nothing else I've driven...which is not much, haha!

I know that's a bit off the original topic question but I just gotta dish up a bit of defense for the dish!
