Hey..
long time lurker first time poster...
great wealth of knowledge on this site! thankyou all!
anyway... planning on messing about and putting a l20b stroker (lz20b frankenstien) into my recently acquired 200b.
I bought the 200b as it was my first car and I fell in love again..
so I was wondering... can anyone tell me where I can find a z22???!? short of buying a complete 720 I mean! even a z24! something.
not sure if im looking in the wrong places or..
any help would be great, cheers.
Jace.

What is it your actually after? I can probley help you out with just a crankshaft. I searched for ages before finding just a short block and had to pay a good dollar for it. I had it advertised in the classifieds a while back. Wanted $200 for it.

Sorry mate I was after the short block and crank.
Crank might still be ok though.
What kind of improvement would I get with a z22 crank, l20 block, rods and head bored with 89mm pistons.
I was going to do the same thing but with a z22 block.
Forgive my ignorance with lingo. I'm just a simple electrician.
Cheers.
Jace.

If you use a Z22 crank in an L20 block , you'll need to find either shorter rods or shorter pistons to fit it all in without the pistons poking out the top of the block.

From memory, Z22S pistons should be close-ish ?

So really it if I was going that way I'd need most internals from a z22 block anyway,
So I may as well use the z22 block as it's sketchy to bore out a l20b blocks to 89mm right?
And a l20b block with z22 crank, rods and slugs wouldn't have that bigger hp increase?
Sorry for my ignorance, I've tried to learn as much as I could from you guys but as I said I'm just a simple sparky hah.

Z series have a different bell housing pattern to L series blocks I thought ?
Z22 is also a commercial type motor, they'll give you some capacity, but spinning them to 7K like the L20B won't happen, for long at least. Even the Z22 crank in the L20B probably shouldn't be revved past 6500, but will have torque like you wouldn't believe.
People go as far as squeezing Z24 internals into the L20B, but they become real torque monsters rather than high revving screamers.
There's a book called 'How to Hot Rod your Datsun' which covers a lot of these type of combos. I saw a Z22 crank for sale on BMSC at one stage, guy was asking $500 for just the crank, doubt he ever got it though.

hi, years ago i done a l20 block with navara z24 crank z series pistons . z18 head and turbo. heaps of torque , and VERY VERY QUICK.

should be able to pick up a rebuildable z24 for less than $200

I'm currently building a engine you described, I'm using z22 block z22 crank, l20b conrods and ka24 89mm flat top Pistons, and using a ported u67 head and Ivan tighe cam, above combo will be around 2.3L and 10.5:1 comp, and will be a street engine

I have built in the past a l20 block z24 crank l20b rods with 88mm z22 flat tops (note there is 2 differant pin heights in z22) this engine was in my old 200b Sss Stroker, and the new motor is going in my new 200b Gx

Just finished fitting the lz23 into the above picture 200b and it goes extremely good, I used z22 block with z22 crank l20b rods and ka24 hi comp piston (89mm) and the bell housing bolts exactly the same as a l20b, I also had to drill extra water jackets into the block to match the U67 ported head.. Cheers Dean

The only pain with a Z24 crank in a L20B block with L20B rods is you have to have the counterweights turned down,Ok if you have a lathe, fairly expensive if you have to take to a machine shop.Don't know if you have to with a Z22 crank

With the z22 crank you don't have to machine anything

hi, i`m pretty sure when i did my l20/z24 combo i used l18 conrods and nissan z series pistons. got the crank counter weights machined down by a crank place in adelaide. fitted a z18 efi head and turbo. the z18 manifold interfeired with the battery tray , so we had to remove that and relocated battery to boot.

L20b block, z24 crank, l20b rods, and a piston with 34mm pin height (z24) is the norm, my old Stroker ran this combo, my new setup is z22 block, z22 crank, and still a 34mm pin height Ka piston, though my deck is -40thou
