G'day, I have a 1600 with an FJ20DET and it turns over, nearly fires up, but just won't start. The Microtech MT8 has a red light flashing slowly indicating a fault, any guesses as to what this could be please? Thanks, Grant. |

have you tested if the plugs are firing? is fuel making it's way to the injectors? |

Yep, checkod out their website/manual, and the warning light is due to a sensor error. I read it could be due to a sensor not being connected such as a water temp or air temp sensor. Does the FJ20 have any sensors not available such as air temp? With regard to the fuel to the injectors, I pulled out a spark plug and it has a strong smell of unburnt fuel, so I guess it's getting in there. How do I check the injectors are getting fuel? thanks. |

Sounds like no spark then - the faulty sensor may be the crank angle sensor |

I checked one lead to a plug and it was sparking. Would a faulty crank angle sensor stop it from firing up? |

I'm not sure about FJ's, but my daily driver Golf had a dodgy crank angle sensor and the thing used to stall at red lights and then fail to start again, so possibly. |

Thanks for the replies. The low pressure fuel pump does not seem to operate either when the ignition is on, or when I disconnect the wires and hook it up directly to a 12V battery, no vibration, no noise or anything? Surely there would be some noticable response such as noise or vibration when connected? (There is a fuel filter after the high pressur pump which is still full of fuel after turning it over a bit?) |

That low pressure pump seems to be buggered at any rate so I will replace it and see what happens. Would this Carter one do the job P4070 ? http://www.vpw.com.au/Category/Index/5726 Thanks. |

Pretty expensive for a low pressure pump. I think the one I used was a Carter. Cylindrical in line jobby. |

You will probably still have a sensor fault. The ecu doesnt monitor the fuel pressure/pump afaik. If it hasnt worked for a while the pump might just be stuck like injectors do when they dry out. Give it a good clean with fresh fuel before you waste money on another pump... |
