Hey guys
Just finished putting an R31 skyline diff into my live axle 200b.
Thought id post up some tips for doing the swap.
First up the diff is 50mm wider than standard,im running 15'' alloys with a slight offset and they sit just inside the guard.
They do scrub when going around corners pretty fast so may have to get my guards rolled,or just slow down.
The strut and lower link mounts line up so they are not required to be moved.
The upper link mounts need to be cut off both diffs and the Datsun items need to be welded on.
Not a hard job if you've got a bit of metal experience.
My skyline diff didn't come with the metal brake line but the stock Datsun item fits the rubber line connected to the R31 calipers which is a bonus.
Same stud patterns
2 holes need to be drilled for the tailshaft.
To save money on shortening the shaft I cut the excess off the front of the shaft where it slides into the gearbox. The is space on the end about 30mm where there is no spline.
Youll also have to cut the sheetmetal cover thing around the outside.
Remember to de-bur the ends so you don't damage the rubber seal on the gearbox.
Youll also have to redrill the holes for the centre bearing, making sure you plate the top with 4mm+ plate.
The bolts require m12x1.25 nuts.
There is no load on the centrebearing really so this fix should be alright.
Only problem I had is working out how the handbrake will connect.
I have a complete R31 handbrake setup though so I might see if this fits.
Also the calipers are a bit stuck on but pulling them down and cleaning everything up with some lubricant should fix this.
Pretty straight forward conversion and a lot stronger than the standard diff.
Also the added bonus of disc brake, they seem to work well enough with the stock master cylinder.I will be upgrading anyway when I upgrade the front suspension and brakes when my 2jz motor is finished.
