Has this ever happened to anyone? The other week I noticed my indicator stalk has rotated clockwise, to the point where the arm in it's central/neutral resting position is more like where it used to be when indicating right. I have a feeling it was the tow-truck driver who towed it to my mechanics last time. Hoping it's just rotated on the steering shaft somehow, or maybe the arm is bent? Just wondering if it's a common thing or not? |

There will be 2 screws on a bracket that clamp the stalk onto the shaft, just undo them, adjust and tighten. (obviously you need to take off the column cover) LHD and RHD stalks are the same they just turn them 180deg (bit of useless information) Good luck! |

Thanks Trav! Looks like I need to get my hands on a steering wheel puller, couldn't bash it off last time, it's on there good and proper. |

I have mixed feelings about tools like steering wheel pullers. 1. They work awesome. 2. They work so quickly and easily its hard to justify the cost. |

just did a quick google, easy enough to make one with a piece of metal, a drill and a tap & die set. |

Get a socket and loosen the steering wheel nut, don't take it right off or the steering wheel will hit you in the face. Sit in the drivers seat and wedge your knees against the back of the wheel with some force, use a "drift" (socket extension bar) and a hammer to hammer the center of the steering shaft being careful not to go overboard and collapse the column. Use plenty of force with your knees to pull the wheel off while knocking the shaft. Might need to turn the wheel and try around the Rim in a different section. If that doesn't work, make fists and give the wheel a vigorous thumping around the rim (without collapsing the column) and start over with the knees and hammering. I've never seen a column collapse or a wheel fail to come off with this method. Others may have.... |

I do the same thing starting with loosening the nut a couple turns. Then grab the wheel at 9 and 3 o'clock and pull toward yourself with both hands. The secret now is to rock left and right whilst maintaining pressure on the wheel with both hands. It'll crack the seal and come loose hitting on the nut. The indicators stalks are easily bent. Check the stalk and straighten. There should also be some tiny screws underneath locating it on the steering column. They may have come loose or fallen out. Check these too... |

You shouldn't need to take the steering wheel off to check the indicator stalk? Just remove the small phillips head screws underneath the black cowell The indicator mechanism has a locating tab that locates in a hole in the steering column, so the mounting screws would need to have just about fallen out for the stalk to move as described. Sounds like the stalk is bent or the whole mechanism is stuffed. |
