Hey guys

Interested on thoughts re: weight of a 1600 shell? It really is close to a bare shell - the only thing in it is the complete rolling rear suspension/diff.

Everything else is out - so that's motor, box, tailshaft, front suspension, steering, glass, hanging panels & trim/interior - so basically it's a bare shell plus the complete rear suspension/wheels brakes, and the brake master/booster in the engine bay.

I'm thinking 600kg, with 400kg of that in the back and 200kg in the front? Or maybe that's a little heavy?

Nowhere near 600kg. I could lift the front of my 180B SSS shell by myself, the rear I could almost lift by myself (I could take most of the weight and shift it around on the floor, just couldn't lift it onto the rotisserie by myself). And I'm no superman, I don't even lift bro.

I'd say no more than 200 - 250kg for the shell (plus the rear suspension, maybe another 50 kgs ?)

Wow, that light! I suppose you're right, I had a Mazda 1300 as a bare shell YEARS ago and three of us lifted the thing off the ground onto a stand with no problems at all.

Rear suspension would probably be more like 80kg (diff is 26kg itself, according to Mr. Google just now) so you've got driveshafts, springs, drum brake setups, shocks, etc... but yeah 200-250kg for the shell makes sense. Not like there's much to it, very thin metal - especially those rear quarters (!!!)

id agree with dave, me and a mate lifted my 1600 shell onto a trailer with my dad walking around helping the front and back just while we got it on there
