Has anyone has their turbo conversion Datsun engineered in NSW recently? I received this email from a prospective engineer after sending him a list of mods i've carried out...

"...This is a significant job. The brake testing will be the most expensive part. (probably $2500 alone)

If you went to a brake system sourced from a single heavier vehicle you could avoid this testing.

Other than brakes, I would budget $1500 for engineering. It will probably be less but I don't like delivering nasty surprises..."

Surely it doesn't cost thousands to brake test? Very rarely have i seen turbo dattos nowadays with upgraded brakes, front and rear, from the same heavier vehicle.

Can anyone shed some light on this brake testing?

Thanks.

I assume they hire a private track and conduct tests there. Hence the cost.
Phone around, you may find an Engineer who either charges less or is willing to sign off on it without full on brake tests, or perhaps one who is doing another car or two on the same day and can share some of the costs etc.
p.s. that would be cheap if here in SA. Engineering is very expensive here for some reason...

That is expensive! When I was looking at getting my 200B done the engineer told me that we'd just take it for a drive down the road!

Thanks wu. I spoke to john @ consulmotive. He was helpful and is obviously very experienced. Will give him a buzz shortly when time comes to go under the microscope
