I'm just connecting up my wiper motor on my 1600.
I connect the 4 pin connector and the wiper motor works.
But then I put the linkages and connect them to the wiper motor shaft and it just keeps blowing fuses, the linkages move freely it blows the fuse because it's earthing out when I connect the linkages.

Also there is a female blade connector next to the main 4 pin connector and if I connect that to the spare blade connector next to where the the 4 pin connector attaches to, the motor won't work so I have to leave it disconnected.

Have I stuffed up the wiring or do you think the wiper motor is shorted out internally??

The 1600 wiper motor and switch wiring work by having fused 12v up to the motor. A bunch of wires from each motor winding go back to the switch and they are connected to ground there as required. The water bottle motor is set up the same. The auto return switch is similar - it connects the slow speed winding to ground until the motor returns to the stop position. The outside of the motor and gearbox can be earthed without any ill effect. In fact it should be our you'll get tonnes of radio interference.
So there's plenty of scope to connect up wires wrong if you've had the connectors completely apart. I've also seen the auto-return switch snap and float around inside.
If the wiring is definitely correct and the fuse still blows when the motor case is earthed then you've got an internal short.

Yeah stock wiper motor on a 72' 1600. It's a Lucas one that sits on the angle.

Couldn't get a pic tonight, I have changed the main 4 pin connector and the wires are as follows looking at the connector plugged into the wiper motor the wire go to the following
Blue white stripe top right
Blue red stripe bottom right
Blue no stripe top left
Blue yellow stripe bottom left
Then there is the single black wire that's plugged into nothing.

Yes I think you have them correct now.
I had to go and pressure wash my engine bay to double check...
My loom has a 6way connector then a small 6way to 4way adapter cable, and where the 4way goes into the wiper motor the wire colours are as you described. They also go one-to-one into the 6way connector - that is the wire colours on the other side of the 6way connector going back into the rest of the loom, matches up with the wire colours from the 4way connector.
The 6way to 4way adapter cabling also has a wire to connect to the wiper motor case for earth.

Mostly OK, needs typical rust and panel work.
