Can anyone tell me if the 5 speed in a 4WD is the same as a 2WD. I am hoping they are as i have found one for $100 but it is in a 4wd. Going to have a look tomorrow but thought i would try and confirm first.
Cheers in advance.

If you have an early 720 with the separate transfer case then a 2WD Box will be suitable.

Hey have done this before, fitted a 4WD box to a 2WD 720 only problem was there was no hole for the speedo drive in the 4WD box, as there driven off the transfer case.

Ok. The thing about no speedo drive has me interested. I have been thinking that the gearstick that is attached to this gearbox looks nothing like any 720 gearstick i have seen and now the fact that it HAS a speedo drive makes me wonder what it is from. Measures up all good and came out of his ute so will fit, but, is it as strong as i have been told the 720 boxes are.
I will post a pic to see if anyone can help with ID.
Cheers

4x4 boxes tend to have a wider ratios with a 3.592 first as opposed to the 3.321 in the 2wd.
