I'm looking for a 71c sr20/ca18 gearbox to do an l series bell housing swap.
Found this which the seller says is a ca18det box, but looking at the photos I don't think it is.
I'm sure the bellhousing is but the rear housing is way to short.

What else could it be?

Please ignore the shifter it's a custom made job.

And here is a ca18det box for comparison

It almost looks like a stanza 5 speed, have you checked the shift pattern?

Shifter looks like 71c to me, could be a navara d21 5 speed with the ca bell on it.
Get the measurements, stumpy is 660mm long, this should be about 680 to 710mm long.

Still a strong box but not as easy to get replacements in good condition if your custom making tail shafts etc.

Bonus is it would have double synchros on 2nd gear.

It's got a 71c style shifter, so rules out stumpy stanza.

I was thinking either a navara or maybe rb20?

What are the 71c style boxes like to shift, I just want something a bit smoother in the shift and possibly a bit quieter then the 71b sloppy shifter boxes for a road car.

I have a perfect condition ca18de 71c box from 1991 model had 114,000km
its exactly like the this pic of the proper ca18det box
[ img ]
yet would have had an easy life in comparison to turbo ca18.

1 at the top seems like a D21 with bell change as pointed out
Looking at this pic you can see the different oxidation on
on rear section separated by the cast iron sandwich plate in
the middle compared to unitary front bellhousing body but
its definitely been cleaned from heavy oil at the rear that
is still visible from the dark patchy area there.
