Nice cars Max. Welcome to the site!
Is that the Grampians in the back ground?

Little bit more of an intro about me,
Just turned 17, from East Gippsland, 1st year Aeroskills Engineer apprentice for ESSO, Been racing since 14 at local clubs ( Boisdale hillclimb, East Sale RAAF supersprints) and been tinkering with dattos since i was 12 :) Ive been saving for around 3 years for a road 1600 doing some part time work cleaning and maintaining trucks for a local fresh produce haulage service (Lanteri)

Thanks fellas, I had an account on this site a while back but forgot the details to it :/ No nick it isnt, it is Mt Taylor in East Gippsland :) Plans so far are :
Manual box
Fix a few little things( squeaky brakes, door handle linkage, bad amp wiring)
Eventually will give the body a touch up.

Specs:
Built 10/1970
L16 stocker
New carby
Steel wheels with original? hubcaps
Venetians
Auto
Basically everything on this car is in stock form.

Feel free to comment anything else you want to know :)

Race Car:
1968
Fully stripped
Caged
Bucket seat
Custom dash
Bluebird box
L20B
48mm Webbers
Huge ports
Lumpy cam
Flat tops
Hot plugs
Extractors
And more. I bought the engine allready modified so i dont know everything about it
New 2 1/2 exhaust with hot dog
Extractors
Lowered
Yokohama Advan 4035s
Thats all the major stuff done to it.

So my first question is.
What do i need to change for a manual conversion?
Obviously Gearbox, master cylinder, pedal box, flywheel, clutch and cut a hole in the floor. But what about diffs and drive shafts etc?
Every bit of information is appreciated :)

Heres a few videos of me in the race cars:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZ1SdrDM-Z8 - 1600 at Boisdale
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm7GLFn9EI8 - 280zx at East Sale supersprints( 3:44 onwards is best lap)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VkFT12aRkk - 98 Wrx at Boisdale
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDxbkxKox6U- Outside view of the 1600
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq5xXntjXv0 - Tragic rollover of my old 1600 when I was younger :(

It wont let me upload any pics of the road car that i took today for some reason so i will try later

Why 3inch exhaust?

nice 1600  i really don't think you or the pigs will be happy with your 3'' exhaust on a l16 not to mention be abit gutless @ lower rpm. i personally would go with a 2 1/4'' system with a decent muffler, will still flow plenty for an l4 and sound good without being offensive.

Ill settle on a 2 1/2 then haha
Nah I reckon they look good, it matches my black and white theme, otherwise with red, orange and clear lights, then a white car and blue/white numberplates ot looks like a friggen rainbow. But thanks for the comment anyway
Does anyone sell exhaust for 1600s? As in redback or something similar?
Thanks :)
Max,

Hey Max,

Go for 2 & 1/4 with a 2.5" tip. Performance will be better.

As for the taillights, I thought it was illegal for tinted lights in Vic...Might want to check that.

Cheers,

Trent

Update: Built an engine for the dato!

Specs:
L16 block 30thou oversize
Surfaced block
Semi dished pistons (1mm dish)
New rings and bearings (big end and mains)
A87 head 50thou shaved
38mm intake ports
Larger ehaust ports
Larger valves (unsure of the size)
Re ground and seated valves
Valve stem seals
Very lumpy cam, pretty sure its a 76 degree cam
New timing chain
New tensioner
New chain guides
Full monotorque gasket set
Rocker cover and pulleys sandblasted and painted in glazaruit
Painted block etc

Thats all I can think of on the engine at the moment

Car also has a new clutch and pressure plate.

2 1/2 stainless steel exhaust and genie extractors

Have just finished collecting parts for a twin 40mm weber setup

Also has a standard 4spd gearbox now instead of the auto

4x114.3 16x7 Te37 rims with khumo ecsta tyres 205 /45

Installed bucket seats, centre console, steering wheel etc

Will be starting the engine for its first time Friday night!

I remember doing a rally over near Yallourn North-Tyers area a couple of years ago, and seen a 1600 on the side of the road for sale just like your racecar.
