Had to clean up the gutters and boot seal area.

Hit them with the wire wheel and repainted.

Before

After, it was only light surface rust. It cleaned up pretty easy with a wire wheel

Boot before, same deal.

Boot after

Still have to rub it all back and buff. Not going to crazy on it but, all I'm doing with everything on this car is tidying it up.
I want to fully rebuild it but that will be in a few years so I just want to get it neat, tidy and useable till then.(and hopefully get it on the track with the angry l20b)

Not much happening. Waiting on lash pads coming from America   what a pain the arse.
Thought they should have been here by now, the dudes haven't responded to emails either so not sure what's happening there.

Got bored and put a couple of parts on
Crossmember, sway bar and a few small pieces to see what they look like.

Also was going to use a Bosch 55amp alternator, it looks like this

(This one is a 45amp, same style off a stanza I think)
[ img ]

I think the 55amp one is off a 720 or bluey.

Are these Bosch alternators internally or externally regulated.
Really don't want to wire in an external reg as I had a internally regulated Lucas 35amper on previously. Other wise ill use an r31 skyline 60amp alternator I have, but its the newer style with no cooling fan on it, it's the one with the vented body and prefer the older looking style.

I think I found out why I had a vibration coming from the rear of the car
[ img ]

[ img ]

The tail shafts had more hits than elvis.

So on the look out for someone with a shortend balanced tail shaft for a 5 speed into a 1600 lying around definitely keen

Also need a few parts to get this thing going ASAP, I'll list them in the wanted section aswell.

I'm going to get this running and regod with a standard 200b L20b I have with a 5 speed, should be easier than trying to pass it with the webers and big cam.
But I really need a standard 200b standard carby and air filter.

Also want a 200b SSS brake booster and a 180b steering box with the 4 bolt cover with the pitman arm or even just the pitman arm.

Slow progress on this been away for work all year.

But I Finally got my lash pads.
Got some racer brown lash pads in .325, .350 and .375 in, then some from another source at .330 and .340 in, I used four of the .340, two of the .330 and two of the .350.
Got the wipe centred perfect on all rockers.

Also got an 8 hole cam sproket and checked cam timing again,
And checked valve clearance, checked with 1.5 degrees advanced and 1.5 degrees retarded and with zero lash there's plenty of valve clearance.

Ill leave it advanced a little to allow for chain stretch.

Happy it's all out of the way and can finally assemble the whole engine.

Also made up the clutch and brake lines, got the left hand brake line going across the cross member, not sure if ill leave it there or re run it in the stock location.

Repainted the brake booster and steering box.

Brake booster is an Aussie 200b brake booster with a jap style front cover.
And the steering box is a late 180b type, should give slightly lighter steering due to the longer ratio.

Just blasted it, it looks good for the $3 outlay of some bi carb. I'm sure there's better media for blasting cast alloy, what do engine reco shops use for blasting alloy heads when they reco them? Maybe glass beads?

I thought those alternators were external reg, I've got a 70 amp r31 skyline alternator to use now.

Cleaned up a stanza l16 and 5 speed box I had this combo was "said" to be in good order. So we will see, can't be much worse than the original l16 that was in it.
[ img ]

I dropped this engine in and I'm going to rego the car with the l16 then put the l20b in and sort out an engeneers cert.

Anyone got a spare lower bell housing cover??

Also do all L series have support pieces that bolt under the block and attach to the bellhousing, it looks like these were on this engine, but I can't find any??
