I took a picture of it today. I'll have to get the mrs to transfer them to the computer though. (I'm worse than useless at computers)

Okay,
I got a couple of pictures.
These are only of the box I got to try rehash onto my spare short shaft.

You can see it has wee tangs on the selector ring that I've not seen on my other 63's, nor 60's or 56's for that matter.
Plus it doesn't appear to have a blocker ring like I've seen before. The pointy teeth with are usually part of the blocker ring, appear to be part of the gear itself.

I'll try to get some snaps of how the existing box looks, but That might not happen overnight. (I work long hours, and sh*t takes time)

The synchros are porsche baulk ring.
Mostly used on competition boxes.
I suggest that you count the gear teeth & work out the ratios.
Check if 5th is 1:1.
Post the gear teeth count if you have difficulty sorting the ratios.

The box in the photo's is an early dogleg STANZA with Porsche style steel synchro's,later ones went to the brass synchro's.1st gear is about 3.6:1 5th gear is an overdrive of about .86:1 and is in the middle of the cluster gear,if my memory correct.

It'd doubt it came from a stanza.
We got bugger all of them here, and aren't they a short box?
This is a long one.
How good or sh*t is this format of gearbox? Aside from being different, do you reckon the dimentions of the bots would be the same as a normal style box?
I wanna strip this down, and put all the gizzards onto my spare short shaft.
Did they move away from this style because of cost, or because brass blocker rings are better?

Your right about the long and the short of it.Sorry. So with that large nut and the tapered peg coming down to retain the rail it is definitely not an Option 1 2 3 box, they have 1st 5th and rev.in the rear housing " big money if it was". That leaves a 180b SSS dogleg long box. With this style 1st and rev are in the rear housing as with the stanza 5th on the cluster. Those steel synchro's are no longer available new.As far as swapping parts box to box I don't think that's possible

Not parts,
ALL the gear assemblies, hubs, and selector rings in their entirety.
I need an easy fix for my problematic 63A A series gearbox.

Need a gear count to get some idea what use it is.
Who knows if it has been played with.
Mixed so many combos over the years.
BTW Bob, option boxes 5th is back of 4th.
Direct no gears.
As in 3rd, 4th in a 4 speed box.

This looks .... similar. I believe from an FS5C71A, a competition box used on the old Fairlady Roadsters. Do you have a picture of the outside of the trans case?

I doubt it's been played with.
I scored it for a song cos the end of the tail housing got damaged when it was removed from the car.
I've already reused my rare as rocking horse-sh*t A series bellhousing on a short 63 from a 710. However, that had the conventional synchros.
