Datsun has done a lot of miles lately moving house, a few heavy loads.
No issues at all except the sloppy rear end and some play in the steering box, that we already knew all about. Mileage is good except when overtaking - but that's how we like it
Only dramas came when the ignition key, a "cut" one, snapped off in the ignition switch with the car still on at a shopping centre a long way from home. Luckily we could easily stop the car and switch off the battery while we disassembled the column shroud and ignition switch to expose the actual plastic switch which we could operate with the remaining stub of a key (or anything else handy).
2nd drama came when locking the car up, and the last remaining open back door accidentally swung closed and was locked with some of our gear still in the car - Handy!
There was a "planes, trains and automobiles" thing to get the spare (original) key from home and unlock the car and retrieve important items. Ignition switch is all fixed up now and column shroud is back on and somewhat taped up. Looks a bit rough but it all works.
I'm messing around with the wheel alignment again - had it adjusted at a "professional" place for money. They seem to have set it with no toe in or out, which isn't so bad, except that it's vague and seems to exagerate the play in the steering box. There seems to be very little caster too, probably lessened a fraction when I lowered the front of the car a little.
Anyway, I've wound on a bit more caster and re-done the toe with a bit of toe-out this time. We'll see how it drives in the coming days. Once I like it a lot I'll take it to a wheel alignment place again and get them to record the settings for me.
No other major issues, electrics and engine never miss a beat. This is probably the easiest car to start that I've ever owned (and we've had some others from new) and is shaping up to be pretty damn reliable.
