A bit random  , but just wondering if anyone else gets the insides of windows getting 'scungy'?

After the car has sat for a week or two this foggy residue builds up.. Sounds stupid, I know, but still its a pain wiping this shite off  Just wondering if this is normal?

I get a similar kinda problem. I don't have a problem finding a solvent or other product that'll loosen the crud up but I find it hard to get a nice even clean on the inside of a car window - i.e. just use a rag/newspaper whatever but end up with swirl marks and that kinda thing

I use that stuff on my windscreen (cbf doing all the other windows), highly recommend it. Goes on as a liquid, dries to a hard paste, then you wipe it off.

I've noticed that scungey scunge, as well. It sucks that it keeps coming back, just another instance of peculiar 'datoitis'. But a normal window cleaner at regular intervals is all I do. Normal window cleaner POWNS that sh*t!

I wonder where it comes from, maybe the window seals aren't working properly any more or moisture is coming in through the vents? Are your cars outside, under a carport, garaged, etc?

Haha glad to see its not just me, yep I usually just use tissues but its a PITA.. will try cleaning with the products mentioned

And Anth, yeh the car is under cover, I think it has more to do with hot weather vaporising something oily thats inside the car already.. just not sure what exactly.. maybe its the interior trim cleaner I used to use :impatient:

i would assume there is moisture in the car. I had a car with a leaky plenum and it got &
''scungey'' windows. It could also be ''vinyl migration'' when vinyl gets hot it lets off a chemical vapour or something like that. Build up on the windows and is not good for you.

I use those things that look like wet wipes but are made for car windows and they are amazing!
I'll check the brand next time I remember.
Also, I had a really, really grubby dirty little apprentice use the company car for a few weeks and somehow every window in the car developed a thick layer of scummy slime. He had terrible B.O too so ... something else to consider :D

Dam OLDATO, that gave me instant nausea  !

I notice it more when it is hot, I always thought it was something vaporising from within the interior. 'vinyl migration' sounds a likely source, not one that I'm overly comfortable thinking about though.

the wipes are really the sh!t i bought some at a car wash that seem to take amazings amounts of crap of that i couldnt even see. Working in a hospital i have access to just about every wipe or soloution under the sun and i have found a few that really clean the car well. Alcho wipes are pretty good and anyone can get those.

I to find vinyl migration a bit concerning but people have been exposed to it for decades and no big deal has been made of it. Just keep your windows down i guess. Come to think of it when i used the wipes on my windows black stuff was coming off that i couldnt see and my vinyl is black hmmm.

I always put the grime down to exhaust fumes and people smoking in the car. Condensation and water leaks making it fog up...
