So I've searched these forums to no avail but I'm sure many have seen or have the aviation high beams on their 1600's. Just wondering if anyone can point me towards getting a pair, cheers.

A reminder. You should use relays to power to these, dont simply plug them into the stock Datsun 1600 loom without upgrading you wiring and switching system. The stock system wont handle the bigger power flow for long.

Frankly, I'd be using a semi-sealed beam and an HID replacement system. The cool thing is, it'll run less power, give more light, and I think you'll find it'll be ADR compliant in a 1600, so long as you have a street legal hi/low beam in your outside lamps - in which you could easily pop some Philips (or similar) Extreme Vision (+100% light, standard wattage globes) H4's.

Do any of the HID lights you are talking about come with a full dome lense (ie they look like the original Datsun globes). I bought some either Hella or Narva HID lights fitted them thought they looked gay so sent them back. They are flattish on the face and not a full dome. Similar to 80's BMW's. I tried to find HID in full dome but no luck. So I my kept originals with aviation high beam.

I did find they make a full dome HID light for the old Minis though but they are bigger diameter. It seems there are Mini enthusiasts who want to keep the original look of there front end too..

They are the semi sealed beams. so you put whatever you want in. I asked as i had to go there to day and my local shop didnt have any more. I did buy mine some time ago.

For a long time, as far as I knew, the only semi sealed beams you could only get with convex lenses were Cibie, through Hansa. They've been NLA for some time now, but a company called Motor Champ now gets cheap, convex lens semi-sealed beams (about half the price of the Cibies) and most Autobarns should be able to order them in for you. You're right, though: the flat lenses that most of them have look totally wrong on most classic cars.
